Waiting on Wednesday is the brainchild of Breaking the Spine, although Jill isn’t hosting this meme anymore. In any case, I will continue to post Waiting on Wednesdays, simply because it’s one of my favorite posts to do each week:-D
I can’t believe there is going to be a sequel to one of my FAVORITE books, Nightwise! If you love the combination of gritty horror and humor, then you need to read this book. And read it before the sequel comes out:
Laytham Ballard once protected humanity as part of the Nightwise, a secret order of modern-day mages dedicating to holding hellish supernatural forces at bay, but that was before a string of sadistic ritual murders shook everything he believed in–and sent him down a much darker path. One that has already cost him most of his soul, as well as everything he once held dear.
Now a powerful faerie mob boss has hired Ballard to find his long-lost daughter, who went missing several years ago. The long-cold trail leads him across the globe, from the luxurious playgrounds of the rich and famous to the seedy occult underbelly of Los Angeles, where creatures of myth and legend mingle with street gangs and sex clubs, and where Ballard finds his own guilty past waiting for him around every shadowy corner. To find Caern Ankou, he will have to confront old enemies, former friends and allies, and a grisly cold case that has haunted him for years.
But is Caern still alive? And, perhaps more importantly, does she even want to be found?
The Night Dahlia (Nightwise #2) by R.S. Belcher. Releases in April 2018 from Tor Books. I know what you’re thinking—April?? It seems far away, but the way my life is going it will be here before you know it. I’m seriously excited about this book! Who’s excited with me?? (Also, Tor is doing a cover redesign, see new paperback edition of Nightwise on the right below)
Hmmmm…wondering why I’ve not started this series. And what awesome covers. Great choice this week (as always) and once again the TBR grows! Hope you guys had a great 4th. Are you pups doing OK?
You would love this series, Barb, especially because you love horror. And yes, my pups are fine, that’s so sweet of you to ask! Although I feel like I’m always on alert and I’m very careful never to leave food down, especially when we aren’t home. I think that’s where our problem came from.
Oooh, love the cover, and it looks like they all have some good covers. Hope you get this one soon! You can check out my Wednesday post in the link below!

Great covers, right? I can’t wait to read this, but I wish April weren’t so far off!
I definitely need to check out Belcher’s works, all his books look very original and weird and it intrigues me!
They are original! I haven’t read anything quite like him, and each book is very different from the next one. Definitely an author to check out when you have time.
Looking forward to this one too! And I did do a double take when I saw the cover on Edelweiss and wondered why it looked so different from Nightwise. I love the new layouts though, they’re so pretty!

I agree, I do love these covers! Sometimes cover redesigns are a good idea:-)
It’s amazing how April is so far away but in the publishing world, it really isn’t. I love this book’s cover – it is dark and mysterious and yet SO vibrant. 😀 I hope you enjoy this book when you get the chance to read it!
Have a fabulous week, Tammy. =)

I love these covers too, I think they really capture the essence of the story:-)
The covers are fabulous – but they do strike me as a tad horror-y… Am I right, Tammy?

Yes, they are definitely horror Sarah. Although I would say a combination of Horror/urban fantasy.
Thank you for confirming that – I am SUCH a wuss, I tend to have nightmares if the content is too creepy so I avoid horror most of the time.
I remember how much you loved Nightwise – I’m thinking I may have to pick it up as part of my horror experiment in October this year. Great cover redesign, too!

That would be a great choice, if you’re experimenting with horror! Although I would also recommend The Last Days of Jack Sparks and The Suicide Motor Club, both EXCELLENT horror stories that are very layered.
This is a series that I definitely need to get round to – soon.
Lynn 😀
It’s so good Lynn, especially if you love the urban fantasy/humor/horror combination.
I love LOVED Nightwise! And I had no idea a sequel was coming!!
Oh good, I love finding other readers who loved that book, it was AMAZING. Now we can both get excited about the sequel!!
