Waiting on Wednesday is the brainchild of Breaking the Spine, although Jill isn’t hosting this meme anymore. In any case, I will continue to post Waiting on Wednesdays, simply because it’s one of my favorite posts to do each week:-D
I believe I have a review copy of this book headed my way at some point, and I couldn’t be more excited:
An epic, ingenious new thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of Robopocalypse, The Clockwork Dynasty weaves a riveting path through history and a race of human-like machines that have been hiding among us for untold centuries.
In the rugged landscape of eastern Oregon, a young scientist named June uncovers an exquisite artifact–a three-hundred-year-old mechanical doll whose existence seems to validate her obsession with a harrowing story she was told by her grandfather many years earlier. The mechanical doll, June believes, is proof of a living race of automatons that walk undetected among us to this day. Ingeniously hidden inside the ancient doll is a lost message, addressed to the court of Peter the Great, czar of Russia.
Russia, 1725: Peter and Elena, two human-like mechanical beings, are brought to life under the watchful guise of Peter the Great. Their struggle to serve in the court of the czar while blending in, and to survive amid those who fear and wish to annihilate them, will take Peter and Elena across Russia, Europe, and, ultimately, across the centuries to modern day.
The Clockwork Dynasty is Daniel H. Wilson’s masterful new novel. It seamlessly interweaves past and present, exploring a race of beings that live by different principles than humans, but ultimately value loyalty. As June learns more about these beings, she is quickly drawn into a fierce battle that has spanned the centuries, and will ultimately determine the survival or extermination of this ancient race. Richly drawn and heart-pounding, Wilson’s novel expertly draws on his robotics and science background, combining exquisite characters with breathtaking technology–and unmatched action. The Clockwork Dynasty is a riveting, breakout novel.
The Clockwork Dynasty by Daniel H. Wilson. Releases in August 2017 from Doubleday Books. I mean, come on!! Did you read that description? How can anyone NOT want to read this book? I am sorry to say I have not yet read Robopocalypse, although I have a copy, but this looks like a good Wilson book to start with. I also love the fact that it switches back and forth between present day U.S. and past Russia. Can’t wait!
Oh my gosh, that premise sounds mouthwateringly amazing :0
I agree, I was intrigued the moment I read the blurb:-)
…Aaaaaand I was pretty much instantly unapproved on NetGalley. Oh well, at least I know now
will be waiting for your review then.
Sounds like an old alien story reworked with clockwork people. Not sure how I feel about this one, have to see some reviews.
Sounds like you are thinking of something particular?
This has piqued my attention but I still may wait for your review. It would definitely be a different type of read for me if I pick it up. However, can I just say that cover is striking!
I think everyone is loving the cover, it’s very different:-)
This book sounds fantastic! I’ll certainly be looking out for it come August.
There are 3 books I’m highly anticipating that come out this year – Rituals, the final book in Kelley Armstrong’s Cainsville series; Spectacle by Rachel Vincent; and Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor.
I can’t wait for Strange the Dreamer either, I’ve preordered it and I’m anxiously waiting for it to arrive:-)
I’ve only read Daniel H. Wilson’s first book, and while it was decent, I haven’t been a rush to pick up any others. I might wait to see a few reviews on this first, but it does sound intriguing.
This will be my first Wilson, and it looks very different from his other books.
I’m not a big steampunk reader, although I have read Daniel Wilson before, so may have to give this one a try. Great pick! You can check out my Wednesday post in the link below!
I enjoy steampunk but it’s got to have something really different to make me want to read it, which this does. Thanks for visiting, Lisa!
I keep eyeing this one- it looks and sounds almost too good to be true! I will be eagerly awaiting reviews from blogger friends!
Ha ha, too good to be true, I guess we’ll see!
By the time I read the words: “a race of human-like machines that have been hiding among us for untold centuries” I was ready to add this title to my “wanted” list. You are very convincing, indeed!
Thanks for sharing!
I think the blurb did all the convincing, lol! But I agree, it’s a great pitch:-)
I love dual timelines but I have such massive hangups with steampunk. This really does sound excellent though…
I’ve actually had mixed results with steampunk too, but this story sounds so good I’m willing to take the chance:-)
I’ll be keeping an eye out for your thoughts.
Oooh, I love stories that feature dual timelines! Steampunk is so fun too, so I’m really excited to hear what you think of this one. I hadn’t even heard of it before!
Dual timelines can be tricky, so we’ll see if he can pull it off. But some of my favorite stories have used that format, so here’s hoping!
WHAT a fabulous cover! This one looks great fun, Tammy – I look forward to hearing what you make of it.
I do love the cover, I especially love the “old time” typewriter look of the font:-)
You sure caught my attention with this one. And I love that cover!
The cover is pretty eye catching, right?
I’ve read his book Amped, though I can’t recall if I’ve read Robopocalypse, to be honest! Either way, he wasn’t on my must-read author list or anything, but when I first learned of this book I definitely wanted to read it. Seems like a bit of a departure from his older work!
It definitely seems different, that’s for sure!
Oh wow. WOW. How epic does this sound? And original too! Great pick TammY!!
I can’t wait to read this one too. I hope it’s as good as it sounds because it sounds awesome.
