Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine, and is a fun way to share upcoming books that you’re excited about with other bloggers and readers. This month I’m participating in Sci-Fi Month hosted by Rinn Reads and Over the Effing Rainbow, and celebrating all things science fiction with weekly sci-fi Waiting on Wednesday picks! Here’s what I’m excited about this week:
Hell on earth is only one click of a mouse away in acclaimed writer Benjamin Percy’s terrifying new horror novel
The Dark Net is real. An anonymous and often criminal arena that exists in the secret, far reaches of the Web, some use it to manage Bitcoins, pirate movies and music, or traffic in drugs and stolen goods. And now, an ancient darkness is gathering there as well. These demons are threatening to spread virally into the real world unless they can be stopped by members of a ragtag crew:
Twelve-year-old Hannah, who has been fitted with the Oculus, a high-tech visual prosthetic to combat her blindness, wonders why she sees shadows surrounding some people.
A technophobic journalist named Lela has stumbled upon a story nobody wants her to uncover.
Mike Juniper—a one-time child evangelist who suffers from personal and literal demons—has an arsenal of weapons stored in the basement of the homeless shelter he runs.
And Derek, a hacker with a cause, believes himself a soldier of the Internet, part of a cyber army akin to Anonymous.
They have no idea what the Dark Net really contains.
The Dark Net by Benjamin Percy. Releases in August 2017 from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. So yeah, it does say “horror” up there in the description, but this is sci-fi horror, baby! Also, I’m so pleased to see another blue cover:-) Percy has written a bunch of stuff, including novels, comics and screenplays. I’m definitely going to check this one out!
Let me know what you’re waiting on this week:-D
Oh wow, what an intriguing premise this is! Great choice — here’s mine: http://editingeverything.com/blog/2016/11/23/waiting-wednesday-738-days/
Okay, so I am really into this novel. Like, an oculus for a blind person to see?! That is so plausible in the near future! I am very curious how ancient demons could invade the web too… And I picture a technophobic journalist as somewhat refuses to type on a keyboard so still summits all their papers on those yellow notepads to their editor XD
Ha ha, I love your idea of a “technophobe journalist.” I hope it’s true!
Hmmm… I read one of Benjamin Percy’s books before and wasn’t massively impressed, BUT I’m always intrigued by internet/techno based thrillers so it might be worth giving him another shot!
I’ve heard a couple of other bloggers say the same thing, but I’m willing to try him. I just love the sound of this story:-)
This one sounds right up my alley. Too bad it’s such a long wait!

It is quite a wait, darn it. Luckily there will be plenty of other books between now and then:-)
The combination of the Internet and some lurking darkness is a powerful one, indeed.
I will keep an eye out for this one, thank you very much! 🙂

I do love internet stories, I guess because they feel so real, like something that could actually happen in our future:-)
I like the sound of this – that ragtag bunch of characters sound like a very intriguing bunch indeed.
Lynn 😀
I also love the “rag tag” character stories, makes for a fun book!
Woah! Sci-fi horror? This sounds super futuristic. I hope you enjoy this book when you get a chance to read it, Tammy! =)

Thanks Alyssa! It does sound cool, I can’t wait to read it:-)
Oh, this is going on my tbr right now! 🙂
Ooh, this one sounds good! Do you know if this is adult or YA? I’m not seeing it any indication that it’s YA but the blurb does give it that vibe!

I would guess adult because of the price I always check the price on Amazon to determine YA or adult. YAs are usually in the $17 – $18 range for a full price hardcover. And if you’re in the $25 range, it’s usually adult.
YEP. This one is definitely on my list. I didn’t completely love Red Moon but this one sounds beyond fantastic!!

I’m looking forward to checking out this author, this will be my first book of his!
