Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine, and is a fun way to share upcoming books that you’re excited about with other bloggers and readers.
I seem to be stuck in a veritable avalanche of Lovecraft-inspired books! I just finished one, I recently reviewed one, and now I’m highlighting yet another this week! Check out this cover, guys:
In this adult debut, humor and adventure cross multiple worlds as a team of quirky losers keep alternate realities from taking over our own.
Atticus Graves just wants to make sure his ex-wife doesn’t take away his visitation rights.
But when Graves stumbles through a portal, he finds himself in a world full of monsters and angels. There are thousands of these doors, thousands of different worlds. And now that he’s seen them, Graves is recruited to Department Zero. Graves and his crew clean up any and all supernatural crime scenes.
A secret society of Nazis from another reality, the Cult of Azathoth, have come to our world looking for the Spear of Destiny to bring back Azathoth and the Great Old Ones—among them Cthulhu Himself—from their prison in a timeless dimension.
Graves and Department Zero must travel between realities to a Britain where it’s always 1899, where Queen Victoria has ruled for 101 years. Here they will fight Nazi cultists with royal connections, demon-spawn mafia beneath the sewers of New York, and infiltrate the infamous Wewelsburg Castle in Germany.
All in time to say goodnight to his daughter.
Department Zero by Paul Crilley. Releases in January 2017 from Pyr Books. I’m loving this crazy cover, and the story sounds like a lot of fun. These Lovecraftian stories are hit or miss for me, so hopefully this will fall on the “hit” side. Also, I just realized Crilley has a new book out right now (although not in the U.S.) called Poison City. Glad his next book will be available here in the states:-)
What are you waiting on this week?
This sounds like fun – and that is a crazy cover. Nice pick.
I know, there’s a lot going on with the cover, it definitely makes me want to read it:-)
Looks like a fun read. I’ll have to keep an eye out for it. Nice pick!
It does look like fun, maybe on the silly side but it will be interesting to find out:-)
I would pick this up on the strength of the cover alone! 🙂

I agree, it’s pretty amazing:-)
Ok…so another one to add to the TBR. I broke down and ordered Poison City from Book Depository last week. I can’t wait to get it. This one sounds odd and I love odd.
I’ve heard really good things about Poison City, plus it’s right up your alley with a talking dog in the story!
I know right? That’s pretty much why I broke down and ordered a copy from the UK.

Yes, more Lovecraft inspired books! I didn’t know this was his adult debut, though I guess thinking back, the one book I’ve read by him was YA/MG.

I just checked GR and he’s actually written a bunch of books. I’m strangely drawn to these Lovecraft stories, especially when they have great covers like these:-)
Yeah, the book I read was actually the second or third in a series, so I knew he had others floating around. I had no idea he was primarily a children’s/YA writer though, or by “adult debut” the description might have meant his first adult wide release novel, if he wrote them small press/indie before?

I’ve not heard of this one. I’m feeling like Lovecraftian books have been more of a miss for me, so I’ll wait to hear what others think of it.

Hrmmm. I really like the sound of this, but Pyr books tend to be a miss for me. I hope you enjoy, you sure are on a Lovecraftian streak!
