Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine, and is a fun way to share upcoming books that you’re excited about with other bloggers and readers. I changed my mind at the last minute for today’s WoW pick! I had something else planned, but then I came across Alice Hoffman’s new book and just had to highlight it this week:
Growing up on Long Island, Shelby Richmond is an ordinary girl until one night an extraordinary tragedy changes her fate. Her best friend’s future is destroyed in an accident, while Shelby walks away with the burden of guilt.
What happens when a life is turned inside out? When love is something so distant it may as well be a star in the sky? Faithfulis the story of a survivor, filled with emotion—from dark suffering to true happiness—a moving portrait of a young woman finding her way in the modern world. A fan of Chinese food, dogs, bookstores, and men she should stay away from, Shelby has to fight her way back to her own future. In New York City she finds a circle of lost and found souls—including an angel who’s been watching over her ever since that fateful icy night.
Here is a character you will fall in love with, so believable and real and endearing, that she captures both the ache of loneliness and the joy of finding yourself at last. For anyone who’s ever been a hurt teenager, for every mother of a daughter who has lost her way, Faithful is a roadmap.
Faithful by Alice Hoffman. Releases in September 2016 from Simon & Schuster. You may not be able to tell from the Goodreads description, but I guarantee there are going to be magic realism elements to this story. That’s Hoffman’s specialty, in addition to her gorgeous prose style. I’ve been remiss in keeping up with her last two releases, so I hope to make time for this one. Plus, I love the cover and I want it on my book shelf!
Anyone else out there an Alice Hoffman fan? Let me know what you’re waiting on:-)
I don’t know that I am a fan but I really enjoyed “Practical Magic” when I read it years ago. If I recall, she has a really beautiful writing style. I sure am liking this cover and hey, a book about a girl who is a fan of dogs is something you just know I will check out. Thanks for sharing…but now I’m wondering what book you originally planned to showcase.

Magical realism! That sounds good to me. I saw “fan of Chinese food” in the synopsis, hehehe. I love Chinese food too. I hope you enjoy this book when you get to read it!
Thanks for visiting my blog! Have a lovely week, Tammy. =)

Never read Hoffman, and didn’t know about this one until I saw it here, but that’s a gorgeous cover! It’s funny, because even before I read your comments, I thought “hmm, it’s very magical realism-y” 🙂

Not sure if this is my type of story, but I’m glad that your excited for it 🙂 And you must be pretty darn pumped, to make a WoW change last minute!
I also am a Hoffman-ite. Something about her writing, settings, and characters just draws me in! So you aren’t the only one waiting on it. 😉

I love magical realism but I’ve never read a Hoffman book before! This sounds like a great – if very intense and heavy – place to start with her work.

YES I AM AN ALICE HOFFMAN FAN! I didn’t even know she had a new book coming out! This has absolutely made my day. I think I’ve read around four of her novels, and really enjoyed them. And I just picked up three more last week from a charity bookstore haha. What’s your favourite novel of hers?
