Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine, and is a fun way to share upcoming books that you’re excited about with other bloggers and readers. Fran Wilde’s debut Updraft was a unique fantasy about a society of people living above-ground in the clouds, and book two comes out this fall!
After the dust settles, the City of living bones begins to die, and more trouble brews beneath the clouds in this stirring companion to Updraft.
When Kirit Densira left her home tower for the skies, she gave up many things: her beloved family, her known way of life, her dreams of flying as a trader for her tower, her dreams. Kirit set her City upside down, and fomented a massive rebellion at the Spire, to the good of the towers–but months later, everything has fallen to pieces.
With the Towers in disarray, without a governing body or any defense against the dangers lurking in the clouds, daily life is full of terror and strife. Naton, Kirit’s wing-brother, sets out to be a hero in his own way–sitting on the new Council to cast votes protecting Tower-born, and exploring lower tiers to find more materials to repair the struggling City.
But what he finds down-tier is more secrets–and now Nat will have to decide who to trust, and how to trust himself without losing those he holds most dear, before a dangerous myth raises a surprisingly realistic threat to the crippled City.
Cloudbound (Bone Universe #2) by Fran Wilde. Releases in September 2016 from Tor Books. It looks like Tor is giving this series a cover re-design, and I quite like it! I think this artwork better conveys the way I imagined the characters’ wings when I was reading the first book. These characters went through lots of changes at the end of Updraft, so I’m very curious to see what’s going to happen next.
Are you reading this series? Let me know what you’re waiting on:-)
Oooh, I love the new cover for Updraft and the Cloudbound cover is stunning! I really enjoyed Updraft so looking forward to getting my hands on the sequel to see how things develop.

I just adore these covers! I think they really capture the tone of the book.
I would have guessed from the original covers that these were more YA maybe even Middle Grade. Love these new covers. Vast improvement for sure. 🙂
You’re right, that first cover of Updraft definitely has an MG feel to it:-)
I haven’t read Updraft but the whole living in the clouds thing has me curious. And I do remember that cover, although the newer one is nice too. Looks like a good read.

Have a wonderful week! Dani @ Paulette’s Papers
I’ll let you in on a secret – I actually loathed the old cover for Updraft. At first glance, I thought that was snow instead of clouds, and the person’s expression is just horrid. When I glimpsed the cover of Cloudbound in the catalog I was like, THANK GOD they changed the style, and I was even more thrilled when I saw they redid the cover of the first book to match. I like it so much better!

Ha ha, I know what you mean, looking at both covers side by side is like night and day! Plus, I couldn’t figure out the whole wing situation from the first cover. Like, how awkward to have to use a hang glider every time you want to fly somewhere!
I’ve not heard of this book! You always have such interesting fantasy picks. =) I hope you enjoy this book when you get the chance to read it!
Thanks for visiting my blog! Have a fantastic week, Tammy. =)

Still haven’t read Updraft. And Fran Wilde’s from my town. :-X
I remember hearing lots of positive things about Updraft and being intrigued by it, but I have to say that the cover change has 100% swayed me to buy these! I almost never like the re-issued versions of cover artwork, but this one is great.
