Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine, and is a fun way to share upcoming books that you’re excited about with other bloggers and readers. I believe this cover was just revealed, and it’s absolutely stunning! I purchased a copy of Moreno-Garcia’s Signal to Noise when it came out last year, but review commitments have not left me any time read it, so sad! Now she has a new book releasing this year, and I’m determined to make time for it:
Certain Dark Things combines elements of Latin American mythology with a literary voice that leads readers on an exhilarating and fast-paced journey.
Welcome to Mexico City, an oasis in a sea of vampires. Here in the city, heavily policed to keep the creatures of the night at bay, Domingo is another trash-picking street kid, just hoping to make enough to survive. Then he meets Atl, the descendant of Aztec blood drinkers. Domingo is smitten. He clings to her like a barnacle until Atl relents and decides to let him stick around.
But Atl’s problems, Nick and Rodrigo, have come to find her. When they start to raise the body count in the city, it attracts the attention of police officers, local crime bosses, and the vampire community. Atl has to get out before Mexico City is upended, and her with it.
In 2015, Silvia’s debut, Signal to Noise, was named on seven year’s best lists: B&N’s Sci-Fi & Fantasy Blog, RT, BookRiot, Buzzfeed, i09, Vice, and Tor.com. Certain Dark Things was also listed on B&N’s Sci-Fi & Fantasy Blog as one of 42 books they can’t wait to read in 2016 and on i09 as one of 40 Science Fiction and Fantasy Books That Will Rock Your World In 2016!
Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno-Garcia releases in October 2016 from Thomas Dunne Books. Vampires! In Mexico City! And Latin American mythology! All elements that sound like they belong together. I can’t wait to get my hands on this one!
Let me know what you’re waiting on this week:-)
Love the idea of Latin American mythology being thrown into the mix. It sounds different in good way. Hope you enjoy it!

That’s what drew me to this book, so many cool elements!
I agree, this sounds like a very cool and very different approach to vampires. Nice pick.
I definitely need to read more vampire books, and this one sounds perfect:-)
This sounds so interesting! Vampire books can seem seriously overdone so it’s nice to see a book that might bring a new angle on the tired story. I hope you love it! 😀

I agree, I am a fan of vampire stories, but I always appreciate when an author tries something different.
I think I just fell in love with the cover. Like, damn XD Latin American Mythology and Vampires in Mexico City? Yeah, I’ll look forward to hearing about this one.
It’s almost too good to be true, I hope all the elements come together!
I love seeing what you come up with each week. I don’t know if my TBR can handle constant visits to your blog but it is now one of my favorites!

Aww thanks Barb! I love sharing books, even though I know sometimes my picks are a little odd:-)
Between the vampire trope – one I can’t resist since reading Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot – and the amazing cover, this book has already my name on it! 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

That cover is gorgeous, right?
Vampires and Latin American mythology sounds like a fantastic combination. Definitely going to be checking this one out.
It really does, right? Here’s hoping we both get to read it:-)
This does sound like a good combination, I agree. Very promising!

I suppose it could go either way, sometimes odd combinations don’t work, but I’m hoping this one does:-)
Oh, *wow.* That is a great combo. It sounds fantastic!

Can’t wait to get my hands on this book either! I remember being told about it last summer when it was still called Young Blood and was sold even though the only description given to me was 1) it takes place in Mexico City and 2) features an Aztec vampire, lol 😀

Yeah, the Aztec vampire was the biggest draw for me:-)
You had me at Latin American mythology! Not nearly enough of that in YA (or literature in general). I LOVE this cover! Tammy, poke me if this book becomes available for request on NetGalley or Edelweiss! I hope you enjoy this book when you get the chance to read it.
Thanks for visiting my blog! Have a fabulous week, Tammy. 🙂
