Welcome to Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Breaking the Spine, where we can share upcoming books that we’re excited about with other bloggers and readers. This cover just broke this past week, and I couldn’t be happier to see it!
A Gathering of Shadows (A Darker Shade of Magic #2) by V.E. Schwab. Releases in February 2016 from Tor Books. I adored the first book, as did many of my blogger friends, and I’m super excited to see Lila (!!!) on the cover of book two! (I do NOT know what those hands represent, though…) And just for fun, here’s the UK cover:
Lovely, right? Here’s the Goodreads description:
Four months have passed since the shadow stone fell into Kell’s possession. Four months since his path crossed with Delilah Bard. Four months since Rhy was wounded and the Dane twins fell, and the stone was cast with Holland’s dying body through the rift, and into Black London.
In many ways, things have almost returned to normal, though Rhy is more sober, and Kell is now plagued by his guilt. Restless, and having given up smuggling, Kell is visited by dreams of ominous magical events, waking only to think of Lila, who disappeared from the docks like she always meant to do. As Red London finalizes preparations for the Element Games—an extravagant international competition of magic, meant to entertain and keep healthy the ties between neighboring countries—a certain pirate ship draws closer, carrying old friends back into port.
But while Red London is caught up in the pageantry and thrills of the Games, another London is coming back to life, and those who were thought to be forever gone have returned. After all, a shadow that was gone in the night reappears in the morning, and so it seems Black London has risen again—meaning that another London must fall.
What do you think? Do you love these covers as much as I do?
I’m so excited, I recently won a copy of ADSOM and I can’t wait to read it <3 So glad to hear the sequel has been announced already!

I hope you love it, Jeann!
February, eh? I guess that means I have time to catch up with A Darker Shade of Magic first. For some reason I just didn’t latch onto the hype when it was released, but it’s grown on me.
You have plenty of time:-D
Eep! So, confession time. I haven’t read a Victoria/V.E. Schwab book. I own all of them that are currently published. But I haven’t read any yet. I think I’m waiting for the overwhelming love to simmer down a bit. Regardless, I’m with you on excitement for this book. And I love how both the US and UK covers absolutely rock. Rarely do I feel like I love both covers in equal measure, but this time. Oh yes. I might be checking out ADSOM sooner rather than later.
Lovely pick!

I agree, this is a rare situation where both covers are just beautifully done:-D
Can’t read the blurb because I still need to read book 1. It’s on my list. Great pick 🙂 Love the cover.
The covers are awesome, I still haven’t read the first one though!

That is Lila on the cover? I guess maybe the pirate hat gave that away? I guess that can’t be THE coat then. The hands are cool and creepy.

I’m actually listening to the ADSOM audiobook right now and I’m really enjoying it – so you’ll probably see me featuring this too one of these days, LOL! 😀

Yes. Love the covers. I hadn’t heard of this series. Thanks for sharing them. Maybe the hands represent Red London since they’re red?

Those covers are seriously fantastic. I’ve been excited for A Darker Shade of Magic but am waiting for my library to purchase a copy… Fingers crossed that happens soon. 😀
