Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine, and is a fun way to share upcoming books that you’re excited about with other bloggers and readers. I adored Rosamund Hodge’s first book, and now this:
Crimson Bound by Rosamund Hodge. Releases in May 2015 from Balzer + Bray. So, according to Goodreads, this is not a sequel, or even set in the same world as Cruel Beauty. And yet—that cover, it screams “sequel!” to me. In any case, who cares? This is a freaking book by Rosamund Hodge! And I am over the moon about it. Can you tell from the girl on the cover which fairy tale this is based on?
When Rachelle was fifteen she was good—apprenticed to her aunt and in training to protect her village from dark magic. But she was also reckless— straying from the forest path in search of a way to free her world from the threat of eternal darkness. After an illicit meeting goes dreadfully wrong, Rachelle is forced to make a terrible choice that binds her to the very evil she had hoped to defeat.
Three years later, Rachelle has given her life to serving the realm, fighting deadly creatures in an effort to atone. When the king orders her to guard his son Armand—the man she hates most—Rachelle forces Armand to help her find the legendary sword that might save their world. As the two become unexpected allies, they uncover far-reaching conspiracies, hidden magic, and a love that may be their undoing. In a palace built on unbelievable wealth and dangerous secrets, can Rachelle discover the truth and stop the fall of endless night?
Inspired by the classic fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood, Crimson Bound is an exhilarating tale of darkness, love, and redemption.
(This is a standalone novel, not part of the Cruel Beauty Universe.)
Oh yes, Little Red Riding Hood! Let me know what you’re waiting on too:-)
OH YES!!! I cannot wait for this. I really enjoyed the first book so much! It was unlike anything else I’ve ever read. Great pick! My WOW
Me too!! So excited, even if it’s completely different.
Oh I feel dumb. Seeing the staircase on the second one is what it took for me to see the staircase around the rose design in the first one. DOH!
Oh that’s funny. The rose was the first thing that jumped out at me on that cover.
I just love the covers of both these books. I’ve been hesitant to pick up Cruel Beauty because a couple of my friends weren’t big fans but Crimson Bound sounds awesome!
Cruel Beauty was certainly different, and I know not everyone connected with it, but I loved it, and can’t wait for this one:-)
Never heard of this not-in-the-same-series-books 😉 but they sound interesting.
Here is myWoW.
Have a nice week 😀
Me either, it’s so different to have similar covers when the books aren’t related – except they are both fairy tale retellings.
LOL! I’m the same as Nathan, I only saw the rose design in the first book until I saw the cover of Crimson Bound and finally noticed the staircase motif. Um, well, I guess I’ll have to go with the description on this one, and if they say it’s a standalone it must be a standalone. I agree with you though, it totally screams sequel. Could have fooled me!
Ha ha! It sounds like another fairy tale re-telling, maybe that’s the reason for the similar cover.
Ooh I hadn’t seen this before so I’m glad you’re highlighting it today! I still need to read Cruel Beauty, and I have to agree the staircase is much more prominent in this book.
So it’s not a sequel? Interesting! I still think I should get around to reading Cruel Beauty first though, definitely. 🙂
I highly recommend it!
I’ve got Cruel Beauty that I still need to read (or well listen to since I got it on audiobook), but I had no idea that there was a sequel! Good to know!
WOW

lol, sequel or not, it sounds really fantastic. I still haven’t read Cruel Beauty (I definitely have to get on top of that) but it sounds like I’ve got even more to look forward to. Great pick!
Here’s My WoW.
Ungh, that cover. Green is so under utilized in covers, I think.
I’m curious to see how the author will retell Little Red Riding Hood!
I really love this cover, but for some reason those trees look really fake:-0
Oh, that does sound good! Can I just say I get more additions (that
I’ve never heard of before) to my TBR from your WoW posts than anywhere else. Thanks for that 😀
Ha ha, sorry Lisa! Or should I say “you’re welcome” ??? 😉
I’ve never read Cruel Beauty but I’m certainly hoping to read both soon.. and that cover is so lovely.. Great pick! 😀

The covers do look suspiciously similar. This sounds really good. I haven’t read Cruel Beauty yet either, but there’s never enough time and to many good books. I’m waiting on the Witch Hour. I just found out about it like an hour ago, but it sounds really good.
I agree, there are just way too many books these days. Slow down, authors!
