It’s hard to believe it will be September in a couple of days! Normally this would be an exciting “back to school” time in my family (and many others too), but of course this year isn’t a normal year at all. My daughter opted to only enroll part time this semester, since as a music performance major it doesn’t make a lot of sense to try to perform over Zoom. I mean people are doing it, but it isn’t fun for her at all. My son is starting his senior year in college online, which is a real bummer. He’s still moving into an apartment off campus, though, so at least there will be something to look forward to. But overall, yeah. Life is just sort of “blah” right now. I feel for families with small children who have to do distance learning while the parents work at home. That’s got to be tough…
In happier news, we are up to the W’s in my library cataloging project! I just purchased three new bookcases from IKEA which will help a lot, although I won’t get them for two weeks. Anyway, we are nearing the end!

Upcoming reviews:
I’m finishing up August with a review of Lone Jack Trail, the sequel to last year’s Deception Cove. I love this series, and I’m ready for the next book! This is small town murder mystery/police procedural at its finest. Plus there’s an awesome dog named Lucy in the story who is a service dog for an ex-Marine cop with PTSD. Look for my review tomorrow.
I may or may not sneak in a review for Yellow Jessamine this week. It depends on whether I finish it or not. This is a short novella with a creepy Gothic atmosphere, but as of writing this post, it hasn’t really grabbed me yet.
Upcoming reads:
I’m probably about half way through Ghost Tree by the time this post goes up. I’m really enjoying it, although it’s very different from Henry’s other books. Look for a review next week. And I have two September 8th releases I’d love to get to next: Master of Poisons and The Bone Shard Daughter. Both are fairly heavy, long fantasies, so I’m not sure I can read them back to back. I may also start To Sleep in a Sea of Stars, which is very long and comes out soon!

Tuesday I’ll be showcasing my September reading plans, so stop by to check out What’s On My Plate! Wednesday is Future Fiction, although at this time I have absolutely no idea what books I’ll be featuring. It seems like cover reveals have really slowed down lately, anyone else notice that? And the Friday Face-Off is “Cold and Crisp” so that should be fun.

The squirrels here are really bold. They will come right up to you if you have food!
That first squirrel is too funny, just hanging out watching you. 🙂 I’m curious about Master of Poisons and The Bone Shard Daughter. And I’ve just copied Hollow Kingdom to my kindle. Not sure how long it’ll be before I start it, there’s a lot on my kindle, but this gets it one step closer to being read. 🙂

The kids went back to school here where I live, I am glad I have no kids and don’t have to worry about it either way. Covid hasn’t been as hectic for me as it has others. I am glad you are enjoying The Ghost Tree, I am about half through it and it’s not really pulling me in. I really am not a fan of Lauren at all. I hope I end up liking it but I just don’t think anything of hers has held up for my love of The Lost Boys…lol.

I got Lone Jack Trail for the library because Deception Cove was so popular with the patrons. I haven’t read either one yet, but with the dog in the story, I might have to put them on my TBR list. Looking forward to your review.

I’m with you 100% on the school thoughts. My daughter is fine with her online classes and will continue to progress. I wouldn’t want to be a college senior trying to take my major highest level courses online though. Yay for the book haul and sequel news! And squirrels – just no. Although they do provide Lulu with exercise I have never been a fan.

I am thrilled about sequels for Hollow Kingdoms and Wanderers — two of my favorite reads from this past year!
It’s so exciting!!
Both my third grader and kindergartener are doing virtual learning. I am especially worried for my youngest, who had been so looking forward to starting school, and she’s not going to get the experience her sister got. I have a feeling I’ll mostly be the one teaching her to read, as teachers can only do so much online. Pretty much bracing myself for another huge shake up in my schedule once school starts :\
I feel bad for all elementary kids in particular. It must be torture to be away from friends and especially missing out on in person interaction with the teacher. Good luck!!
That squirrel looks so laidback, the squirrels in my back garden are constantly boinging about, they are crazy!
I must read Wanderers, its on my Kindle but I’ve never gotten around to it but good to know if I enjoy it there is another book coming.

I’m so sorry both your children have been caught in the mess that this pandemic has made of our educational establishments around the world. And thank you for providing the lovely squirrel pics:). Oh wow – W – you have made major progress with your library – how many books is that?? I’m a little over 3300 books at the moment. I don’t think I’ll hit 4000, so I guess my husband will be relieved, lol.
I hear you on life just being blah right now. The only good thing about my son going to school virtually is that it has at least introduced something new into our daily routine, lol. That’s exciting news about the Hollow Kingdom sequel. I loved the first book so much.
Ha ha a change is routine is great these days, right?
I do feel so sorry for families at the moment struggling to work and balance homeschooling – not to mention being so much in each other’s company with very little interaction with others. It’s very stressful.
