Buffy’s Corner 8/23/20 – Looking at the Week Ahead

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D

Hope everyone is doing well! Did you all see the Democratic Convention? Sure, the format was a little weird, but I thought it was full of heart and emotion and, yes, smart people! Especially smart, articulate women. If anyone can save our country it’s the women, right? I felt a burst of love and hope that I haven’t felt for this country since 2016. I adore Kamala Harris and I loved hearing Michelle Obama speak, and wow, Jill Biden!! I loved her too. U.S. peeps, I know you already know, but PLEASE VOTE!

Otherwise, the California Heat Wave of 2020 continues. There are terrible fires still burning in the Northern California area in particular. NoCal friends, please check in and let me know that you are OK!

I’m just featuring one hubby photo this week because I love this so much, I wanted it to have a solo spot:

Upcoming reviews:

Tuesday is my stop on the Where Dreams Descend blog tour. I’m posting a review, and if this were just a normal review post, I’d probably only give this three stars. Because it’s a blog tour, I won’t post my rating and I’ll have to figure out how to focus on the positives. This is one case where I may go back and post a more in depth review after the blog tour’s over.

I’m also planning on posting a review for The Bond by Robin Kirk. I’m embarrassed because Robin sent me a copy of her book ages ago and it just got buried under my TBR as sometimes happens. But the sequel is coming out soon and I wanted to read this first book so I’ll be ready for the sequel. I’m about half way through as I’m writing this and loving it!!

Upcoming reads:

My August pile is looking grim. It’s almost the end of the month (how did that happen??) and I still have way too many August books left to read. You’ll definitely see a bunch of them spilling over into the next couple of months. But these three are August releases that I’d like to read next. All three are different genres so it gives me some choices.

The usual memes…

Let’s see, Future Fiction on Wednesday and The Friday Face-Off on Friday (the prompt is “dark road). I may try to get a third review up on Saturday if I can read fast enough!

In case you missed…

Yes! The convention was awesome. It gave me hope for our country. I love your husband’s photos. He has a great eye.

  2. Yes women will hopefully save your country Tammy! And I have headr of the fires as one of my friend had to be ready to evacuate! Scary! I love your husband’s picture with the sun beaming through the clouds! That’s beautiful!

  3. I’ve read two books this month. TWO. Dang stupid 600 pages books…..halfway through The Memory of Souls, I need a day to my self to just knock it out. Enjoy your reading this month!

You’re definitely choosing longer books. I have a bunch of 500+ page books that I’ve been putting off for that reason. At some point I’m going to have to break down and read them!

  4. I’m with you on the Dem convention. It felt so real rather than a bunch of bragging and bluster. Of course, I’m enjoying the women. Amazing photo! It’s hot here but finally more consistently in the 80 rather than 90s.

  5. Absolutely beautiful photo. I love the range of subjects and styles your husband is exploring. I’m glad you continue sharing them. I keep trying to convince myself not to judge a book by its cover, but it’s the covers of Brian D. Anderson’s books that leave me really wanting to try them, hoping the story will live up to or surpass the gorgeous covers.

I loved Brian’s first book and I can say I thought the story was just as good as the cover:-)

Sooo… I’m kind of in a similar spot with Where Dreams Descend. Sort of clueless as to what to do. I did think it had some good things going for it though. Guess I’ll keep it quick?

Ha ha, I’m actually writing my review right now, and honestly I’ve never had to do this before, but I’m definitely focusing on the things I did like and I’m going to gloss over the rest. And yes, I think “short” is the key to getting through this, lol! Good luck!

  7. I didn’t watch the convention per se but I did follow a lot of the coverage and was very happy to see some positivity again! I love Kamala Harris anyway and from what I heard jill Biden knocked it out of the park. I’d love to see real leadership return…

    Nice pic!

I’m so sorry to hear about those fires, they sound awful! All the people affected… it’s terrible. Be safe and well this week!

Love the photo! But there are way, waaay too many buildings in it for my tastes I look forward to your opinion of Lone Trail Jack!

  9. Stay safe out there in Cali! And LOL, this might just be the cynical side of me speaking, but I’ve always seen myself as an independent so I do try to look at everything objectively, and the Dem convention just seemed so…scripted? Like you said though, it could be the format, which was strange to say the least. Still, I don’t recall ever feeling so jaded about politics before, but the last few years have really changed me, no politician comes across to me as authentic or genuine anymore.

  10. Glad you are feeling hopeful after the convention, Tammy! I’m tentatively hopeful, pending the election. 😉

Stay safe out there! Been thinking about all my Cali friends these past couple weeks.

  11. Wow, I think that’s my favorite photo from your hubby so far. It’s truly gorgeous. I did watch the Democratic convention and came away from it feeling very hopeful for the future. It was great to hear Michelle Obama speak again, and I loved both Kamala Harris and Dr. Jill Biden.

  12. Spectacular photograph. I can see why you want it to have the spotlight.
Ahh, well done with the blog tour – you managed to focus on all the positives even though you didn’t love it.
    Lynn 😀
