Buffy’s Corner – Looking at the Week Ahead 8/16/20

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D

Southern California is in the middle of a heat wave. As I’m typing, it’s 100 degrees, ugh! Good thing there’s not much to do except stay home and run the AC. My week has been pretty boring and I don’t have anything much to report.  The home library continues to be cataloged and shelved at an alarmingly slow pace, lol. But my son is up to the R’s so at least we’re on the downward slope! Hubby took a few cool photos this week, check these out (click on photos to enlarge):

This sunrise photo is untouched, and the color is a result of a nearby brush fire, unfortunately. And this is a red-tailed hawk! Isn’t he cute?

Upcoming reviews:

Look for my blog tour review of Blood World by Chris Mooney on Tuesday. I really enjoyed this futuristic thriller about “carriers” whose blood has miraculous healing powers. And I needed something short to read in order to get a second review in this week, so I’ll be posting a review of Drowned Country by Emily Tesh later in the week.

Upcoming reads:

I have another blog tour this month for Where Dreams Descend, so this has to be my next read. (and that’s it for blog tours for a LONG time. I always feel so much pressure and you have to read the book, even if you’re not in the mood.) After that, I’m not sure? I’m actually feeling extremely overwhelmed with reading right now. I have way too many August releases/review copies to read and I won’t be able to read them all this month. So we’ll play it by ear. Maybe Lone Jack Trail or Belle Vue will be up next:-D

The usual memes…

Just the “usuals” this week: Future Fiction and The Friday Face-Off. I may do a book haul post next Saturday, we’ll see.

In case you missed…

Here are my posts from last week:

Buffy’s Corner 8/9/20

Future Fiction #85

Ashes of the Sun by Django Wexler – Review

  1. I was excited to read your comments on Blood World, I grabbed an audio copy because it sounded interesting and I’m glad my instincts were somewhat confirmed 😀 I also need something short to read, so I’m thinking I might read Silver in the Wood/Drowned Country this week as well.

  2. Uncontrolled brush fires aren’t something to wish for, but at least when they occur your husband can take advantage of how they affect the sky. When I read the description of Blood World I was initially a bit leery of it, but I’m happy to hear you enjoyed it. I’ll give it a closer look and look forward to your review. I hope your reading schedule calms down a bit, it’s not worth burn out. Take care, and here’s to a good week!

I agree, I just hate when I can’t deliver a review on time, but it’s my fault for taking so much on. Oh well!

  3. What a beautiful sunrise, despite the extreme circumstances in which it occurred. I love the little hawk too – he looks like he’s wearing feathery trousers!

I’m looking forward to your review for Drowned Country. I’ve heard such good things recently that I’m very keen to read it and would love to hear your thoughts. Plus that cover is just gorgeous!

Have a great week, Tammy! 😀

  4. I have to be very careful about blog tours because they don’t allow much flexibility. I try to only do them when I couldn’t get the book easily another way or I really want to support the author. Thankfully, I am reading really well right now and there is so much I want to read!

Our heat wave has broken a bit with a north wind the next few days. Hopefully we will stay in the 80s more now. I hope you also have a break.

I’ve heard so many people all over the world are having heat waves right now! Ugh global warming:-(

I’m inside with the AC on so I’m OK, but walking the dogs is a problem. We have to do it either really early or really late…

  5. It is really sad where the great sun picture comes from. Hubby is taking some great shots! I’ve not seen Bellevue before and wonder where I’ve been. Excited to hear your thoughts on that one!

  6. I agree about the pressures of blog tours. I have two left this month and plan to take a break from them afterwards. That sunrise photo is beautiful. Definitely a shame about the brush fires though. We had been experiencing a heat wave but then it abruptly switched to a week of nonstop rain and storms. I’d love a mild and quiet weather week soon, lol.

Me too, the book is going to have to be REALLY tempting if I do another blog tour anytime soon, lol.

I’m also on the Where Dreams Descend blog tour and kind of regretting agreeing to it. Not because the book is bad (actually I really like the dream like quality so far, reminds me of The Night Circus) but because as you say, I’m just not in the mood for it right now. It’s hard enough to get other ARCs read on time never mind having the review posted on a specific date! lol. Still I wanted to give it a try. Blood Money sounds great.

Yeah, having to read books at a certain time just adds to the stress. I am actually enjoying Where dreams Descend, though, so that’s good! I just wish it were a little shorter…

      • Sarah

Haha- I’ve been thinking the same thing. It says it’s 500+ pages or so but it feels like a lot more.

  8. Those photos are wonderful! Do thank your husband for sharing them… And I’m so impressed that your son has got to ‘R’ already… Especially as your temperature is in three figures – we were up in the 90s for four days in a row last week *shudders*. No wonder you are hunkered down by the a/c! I have just completed reading Silver in the Wood, so I am keen to read your response to Drowned Country. I hope it is a cooler for you in the coming week, Tammy and that it’s a good one. Stay safe:).

I don’t see any end in sight for this awful weather, and usually we don’t get these long stretches of 90-100 degree days, so it’s a little worrisome.

  9. The photos are amazing (hope the fire wasn’t too serious?)
I need to pick up a copy of the Tesh book, I’d like to read that one soon.
    Lynn 😀

I think the fire is out, and I don’t think any structures were involved, so that’s good. It is fire season here and this heat isn’t helping…
