Buffy’s Corner – Looking at the Week Ahead 6/21/20

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D

Today is Father’s Day in the U.S., so Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there! It might not surprise you that I found this awesome sign that is perfect for my husband and his crow-loving ways:

Running through Los Angeles and its suburbs is the Los Angeles River—which isn’t actually a “river” but hey, we city folk need our fantasies, right? It started life as a real river but later was redirected into a concrete channel which fills up during rainstorms and drains during times of drought. Many many movies have been filmed in the river, like Terminator 2: Judgement Day, and parts of the river are polluted and filled with old shopping carts. But you can also find some amazing animal life in spots, and that’s the inspiration for today’s Hubby photos:

Upcoming reviews:

I was planning on spending the week reading We Ride the Storm, but a stressful week at work had me turning to something shorter. I just couldn’t concentrate on complex epic fantasy, so I ended up reading The Only Good Indians, because complex cultural character studies are much better, right? Look for my review tomorrow. Spoiler: Wow.

I’m going to try to get a review up for We Ride the Storm later in the week.

The usual memes…

I’m currently working on my picks for Future Fiction, so stop by on Wednesday to see what I’m featuring this week! Tuesday is the 10th anniversary of Top Ten Tuesday, which is a big deal, so I may try to come up with something for that. The Friday Face-Off is “windows,” and I’m sure there are a lot of choices for this prompt. And finally on Saturday, look for an Over-Booked book haul post. Not much in the way of physical books but I do have some new digital titles I’m very excited about.

Upcoming reads:

Assuming I can finish We Ride the Storm, I hope to get to Stormblood and Mexican Gothic by the end of the month. The problem is that the end of the month is speeding toward me like a freight train, help! Anyone else feel like June has just disappeared in the blink of an eye? I have been slowly reading the short stories in Dark Celebrations, squeezing them in while I’m also reading novels, so a review should be up in the next couple of weeks.

In case you missed…

  1. Happy dad’s day! Here in Italy is in March instead!
And I have read some interesting reviews about Storm blood, so I am curious to know what would you think about it!

  2. What lovely pics – that one of the Canada goose is amazing! And you’re in for a treat this coming week – I’m really looking forward to discovering what you make of Mexican Gothic – only now am I able to look at a mushroom without shuddering… Hoping the coming week is less stressful, Tammy!

  3. It’s always relaxing and fun watching the wildlife that gathers where there’s moving water. Good stuff. I’m looking forward to reading about all the books mentioned this week. Each has a different appeal, but I think there’s a good chance I might enjoy any of them.

I agree, water seems to attract so many different birds and other animals. I wish I had easier access to it:-)

Thanks Anne! I pulled a mood read today, I was going to pick up a book I need to read but instead I started reading one I WANT to read, lol.

Thanks, same to your husband! I just started Mexican Gothic today and it’s really good

  4. I’ve been avoiding getting We Ride the Storm because it seemed like it would be too much right now. I hope you wind up loving it! I look forward to hearing what you think of it.

I’m going to read it, I swear! I just keep picking up other books instead, but I think it’s next for sure.

  5. I really don’t know what’s going on with June, it’s flying by ridiculously fast.
Mexican Gothic is my next read and I can’t wait – I’ve already seen such positive reviews for it and I know I love this author’s work.
    Lynn 😀
