Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. This week, a debut YA fantasy, a new Tor.com novella, and a new science fiction thriller:

Cast in Firelight (Wickery #1) by Dana Swift. Releases in November 2020 from Delacorte Press. I think this sounds really good, maybe a bit tropey, but I love stories about secret identities so I think this is going to be fun!

Remote Control by Nnedi Okorafor. Releases in January 2021 from Tor.com. Yes, we’re looking way into the future with this book! Isn’t this cover gorgeous? The story description is a bit vague, but having read and loved Okorafor in the past, I’m really looking forward to this.
In this claustrophobic science fiction thriller, a woman begins to doubt her own sanity and reality itself when she undergoes a dangerous experiment.
The Ganymede compound is a fresh start. At least that’s what Senna tells herself when she arrives to take part in a cutting-edge scientific treatment, where participants have traumatic memories erased.
And Senna has reasons for wanting to escape her past.
But almost as soon as the treatment begins, Senna finds more than just her traumatic memories disappearing. She hardly recognizes her new life or herself. Even though the symptoms for the process might justify the cure, Senna knows that something isn’t right. Reclaimed by Madeleine Roux. Releases in November 2020 from Ace Books. At first I thought this might be connected to Roux’s last release, Salvaged, but I don’t think it is. In any case, I love the sound of this!

I’ve been so out of the loop when it comes to publishing news and upcoming releases ever since the shutdown blew up my work schedule, but I was surprised I actually know of all three this week, go me! It doesn’t seem like Reclaimed is related to Salvaged, but I’m not 100% sure. Either way, I didn’t love Salvaged,so I was going to wait and see with this one anyway 😛

Yeah, I know there were lots of mixed reviews for Salvaged. I’ll probably wait on this one as well.
Ever since I read Lagoon I’ve had a desire to read more from Nnedi Okorafor, and Remote Control looks like another potential winner. I had to also add Reclaimed to by TBR from just the cover alone. Thankfully, the story sounds interesting, too. 🙂

Reclaimed sounds exactly like the kind of book I would love: psychological thriller, mystery and a SF setting. The perfect recipe, indeed 😉

Some great sounds books here. Cast in Firelight is going on the wishlist for sure and I’ve had good luck with the other two authors so I might check them out as well.

I don’t read a lot of sci-fi / fantasy books, but I want to read something by Nnedi Okorafor someday. I’ve heard good things about them.

Cast in Firelight *definitely* sounds tropey, and that’s why I’m dying to read it. xD Sometimes tropes are a good thing! If they’re the right tropes and they’re done right. I was lucky enough to get an ARC already, and I’m looking forward to it.
Okay, Remote Control is going on my TBR *immediately*. Oh my gosh, that sounds so fantastic! I will forever read books that make Death a character, and I definitely need to read that one.
