Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. A trio of September releases this week!
In true The Da Vinci Code fashion, a taut thriller filled with rival factions vying for control of the truth in a giant global conspiracy.

Bone Chase by Weston Ochse. Releases in September 2020 from Gallery/Saga Press. I nearly featured this last week, but I just didn’t have a slot for it. I’m loving this cover, and I need more thriller/mysteries on my TBR, and this one looks like fun! Also, this cover reminds me of Andrew Mayne’s The Naturalist series, which I love.
A gorgeous fairy tale of love and family, of demons and lost gods, for fans of Zen Cho and JY Yang.
When Rosa (aka Red Riding Hood) and Hou Yi the Archer join forces to stop the deadly sunbirds from ravaging the countryside, their quest will take the two women, now blessed and burdened with the hindsight of age, into a reckoning of sacrifices made and mistakes mourned, of choices and family and the quest for immortality.
Burning Roses by S.L. Huang. Releases in September 2020 from Tor.com. This cover was revealed several weeks ago, but it’s never too late to feature a gorgeous book from the good folks at Tor.com!
In a slightly alternate London in 1983, Susan Arkshaw is looking for her father, a man she has never met. Crime boss Frank Thringley might be able to help her, but Susan doesn’t get time to ask Frank any questions before he is turned to dust by the prick of a silver hatpin in the hands of the outrageously attractive Merlin.
Merlin is a young left-handed bookseller (one of the fighting ones). With the right-handed booksellers (the intellectual ones), he belongs to an extended family of magical beings who police the mythic and legendary Old World when it intrudes on the modern world, in addition to running several bookshops.
Susan’s search for her father begins with her mother’s possibly misremembered or misspelled surnames, a reading-room ticket, and a silver cigarette case engraved with something that might be a coat of arms.
Merlin has a quest of his own: to find the Old World entity who used ordinary criminals to kill his mother. As he and his sister, a right-handed bookseller named Vivien, tread in the path of a botched or covered-up police investigation from years past, they find their quest strangely overlaps with Susan’s. Who or what was her father? Susan, Merlin, and Vivien must find out, as the Old World erupts dangerously into the New.
The Left-Handed Booksellers of London by Garth Nix. Releases in September 2020 from Katherine Tegen Books. I’ve never read Garth Nix before, but this might be a good place to start. This sounds like so much fun, and I’m loving this cover.
Nix’s book seems intriguing! And they all have great cover!!

I agree that the cover for the Nix book is really awesome. When I saw Bone Chase, I actually thought it was from The Naturalist series as well. I love your choices this week and for some reason (go figure), they’re all already on my wishlist so you didn’t enable me any at all (although I think it’s probably a technicality).
Sorry about your comments, Barb. I think Bone Chase would fit perfectly with The Naturalist series, ha ha!
So I’ve lost three other comments but they all boiled down to these are great choices and they are already on my wishlist. I also thought Bone Chase was from The Naturalist series at first.

Oh myyyy, Bone Chase sounds fantastic! I do love me a conspiracy thriller. The Left-Handed Booksellers of London is an interesting title. I haven’t read any Garth Nix, either, but I’ve heard really good things about their work. Honestly, I’m all for reading anything that involves booksellers or librarians.

Ooh, a new Garth Nix! I’m ready to try another book by him, one that seems more like his usual style than Angel Mage.

Interesting future fiction picks this week! The Left Handed Book Sellers of London sounds very different. I’ve also never read Garth Nix before though I’ve seen the name pop up a few times- maybe it will be a good place for us both to start.
Maybe! I have a whole list of popular authors I’ve never read that I’d love to get to at some point.

Burning Roses sounds like one I could enjoy a lot. I love a fairytale esque kind of story. And I absolutely love the title The Left Handed Booksellers of London. I have always been meaning to read a book by Nix as well, so this might be where I could start 😀
