The Friday Face-Off: Puffy Dress

The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!

This week’s theme: A cover with a puffy “meringue” dress

I’ve always loved the covers for Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner’s Starbound series, and the first book has one of my favorite puffy dresses of all time, so I thought this week I’d feature all three books. There aren’t very many different covers to share, but I do like looking at all the U.S. covers together! Take a look:

U.S. edition Disney Hyperion 2013 | German edition 2016 | French edition 2013

U.S. edition 2014 | German edition 2016

U.S. edition 2015 | German edition 2017

I find it funny that the German editions are basically all the same and they didn’t change the title for books 2 and 3, they just added the names of the couples featured in those books! I do love all three U.S. editions, but my heart still gravitates toward These Broken Stars, which I’ll claim as my favorite:

  1. It’s a great choice of book for this theme. The cover you chose is really good and the one you definitely associate with the book – Sarah used the same book this week – I like her choice which is almost the same cover but with the title font a little more clear.

I like all the US covers too. I think my favorite of the three though is the last one. I want a dress that glows! Not that I’d ever have anywhere to wear it to.

  3. That is super weird that the German books didn’t change the title! I wonder why they decided to do that? I think my favorite is This Shattered World, mostly because the girl looks super badass and I’m not a huge fan of puffy dresses

Now that is a beautiful puffy dress — and green too. Don’t see that often as a colour choice for dresses and women — i don’t think at least

  5. I love the dress for Their Fractured Light! – that purple is gorgeous. But of course your choice of book was INSPIRED – and I also like your favourite, although I chose the Allen & Unwin edition where the title font was easier to read and didn’t sprawl all over the artwork.

  6. The Captain

I really love these covers and while I am not a puffy dress person, I do admit that the cover led me to read book one. This is one of the series on me list to finish. Arrr!
    x The Captain

  7. That’s so weird that the German editions didn’t change the title! I would think that’d be confusing. Or maybe I just get confused easily. I think your choice is my favorite, too, and that dress is just stunning! I want one. xD
