Welcome to Over-Booked, my “couple times a month” post where I share my most recent book acquisitions. I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves at Tynga’s Reviews and The Sunday Post at The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
Nice, light book haul today, which is great, since I’m SO far behind with review books!
Physical books for review:
A couple of surprise arrivals and one book that I eagerly accepted after the publicist asked me if I’d like a copy!
The Best Science Fiction of the Year: Volume 1, edited by Neil Clarke. A rather intimidating door-stopper of a book, but just look at the authors that have stories in this collection: Aliette de Bodard, Ann Leckie, Ken Liu, Ian McDonald, Seanan McGuire! And LOTS more. I’ll definitely try to fit this into my schedule, and even if I can’t read the entire book, I’ll certainly be checking out a bunch of these stories! Big thanks to Nightshade Books for this copy:-)
The Geek Feminist Revolution by Kameron Hurley. I had actually been eyeing this book on NetGalley, but hadn’t committed to actually requesting it, when a finished paperback showed up in the mail. Hurley has written quite a few pieces about her life as a female writer in a field dominated by men, some of them quite personal from what I understand, so I’m really looking forward to checking this out. Thank you Tor!
Quantum Break: Zero State by Cam Rogers. I read an enthusiastic review of this book on The Bibliosanctum, and so I immediately said “yes” to a review copy when I was asked. I’m not familiar with the video game this is based on, but apparently I don’t need to be in order to enjoy it. Thank you Tor!
Digital review copies:
Red Queen (The Chronicles of Alice #2) by Christina Henry. I loved Alice, the first book in the series, which was dark dark dark. And I expect no less of this sequel!
The Graces (The Graces #1) by Laure Eve. A story about witches. That is all. Yes, I’m excited! Plus I love this cover.
That’s it for me this week! I’d love to know if you’re planning on reading any of these books:-)
WOOHOOOOOO I am sooooo looking forward to your thoughts on Quantum Break!!! I thought it was so wonderfully done and I can’t help being curious to see what a reader who hasn’t played the game will make of it!

I’m excited to read it, I’ll let you know!
Enjoy reading all of those books! I hope you have a lot of fun with it ^.^ I really like the looks of The Graces.

I’ll have to check out the dark Alice series you mentioned. Sounds interesting. Happy reading.

I don’t know these books but I hope you enjoy them all ๐
I don’t own a copy of The Geek Feminist Revolution, but I have a signed bookplate and bookmark. I am subscribed to Kameron’s newsletter and a while back she send out an email asking if anyone would like them, to send her their address. So I did ๐
That’s cool, she sounds so nice if she’s willing to send those out to fans:-)
Interesting books. The Geek Feminist Revolution looks amazing. I hope you love all of your new books.

Thanks for visiting, I’ve taken a peek inside The Geek Feminist Revolution and it looks like something different, which I am always looking for:-)
Your Alice review was what led me to add it to my TBR – still planning to get to it sometime soon! I hope you enjoy the sequel.

Oh good! If you don’t mind DARK, you will LOVE Alice. I can’t wait to read the sequel:-)
Ahhhh The Geek Feminist Revolution! I really want to read that one soon. I’ve committed to only buying three books per month for the foreseeable future, and that one is one of my three for May. ๐

You are so good! I don’t buy nearly as many books as I used to, but I did have a serious book buying problem at one point, books being more important than paying the rent, for instance!
Well, the only book I’ve heard of here is The Graces – I saw it on a friend’s blog, as a WoW choice. ๐ I haven’t read anything about witches in quite some time, so that might prove to be an interesting book. Congrats on the surprise arrivals, those are always FUN! I hope you enjoy all of your new books, Tammy. =)
Thanks for visiting my blog! Have a fantastic week!

I’m glad to see you go The Geek Feminist Revolution! I have that one sitting on my shelves right now. It looks really interesting, but I have no idea when I’ll be able to get around to reading it. Can’t wait to see what you think about it.

Great stack of books – as ever! Interested to see what you think of the 2nd Alice book. I’m keeping my eye on that one – interested to see how the series pans out.
