Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!
The 2025 review books are starting to roll in (mostly thanks to Tor, who has been extremely generous), so today’s haul consists of all 2025 releases except for one. In any case, this is an exciting haul, so let’s get started!
Books in the mail for review:
This stack is from Tor Books, so huge thanks to them for being so generous! Starting off with The Relentless Legion by J.S. Dewes, the conclusion to her fantastic space opera series The Divide. I was hoping to get to this for Sci Fi Month, but it might carry over into December.
I was thrilled to get a copy of Wooing the Witch Queen by Stephanie Burgis, one of my most anticipated February releases. This is the start to a new romantasy series, and I can’t wait to dive in!
The next three are Tor Nightfire releases. First up, White Line Fever by K.C. Jones, which sounds so good. I love stories about creepy roads, and this should be fun.
Rose of Jericho by Alex Grecian is a historical horror novel involving witches and ghosts!
After loving Nat Cassidy’s Nestlings, I’m very curious to read his next book, When the Wolf Comes Home. This may or may not involve werewolves…
Murder by Memory by Olivia Waite comes courtesy of Tordocom and is a cozy sci-fi novella. I love this cover and the story sounds really good too.
I adored Cynthia Pelayo’s Forgotten Sisters earlier this year, so I’m so happy to have a copy of Vanishing Daughters. This looks like another of Cynthia’s trademark horror stories set in Chicago. Huge thanks to Kaye Publicity for the review copy!
The Otherwhere Post by Emily J. Taylor was a surprise arrival, at least I don’t remember requesting it. But I’m thrilled to have a copy! This is a YA fantasy that’s been getting some good reviews. Big thanks to G.P. Putnam’s Sons for Young Readers:-)
Huge thanks to Blackstone Publishing for a copy of At Dark, I Become Loathsome by Eric LaRocca. I love Eric’s writing and their unique horror stories, so this should be good.
Finally, with thanks to Tordotcom I received a copy of But Not Too Bold by Hache Pueyo, described as “a sapphic monster romance novella.” I mean, how can you resist that!
Digital books for review:
I’ve been very choosey about requesting books on NetGalley, but here are a few I’m super excited for.
Direct Descendant by Tanya Huff is a cozy mystery/horror with some mixed reviews, but I’m very curious to see how the story relates to the fantastic cover.
I’m beyond excited to read the second book in Robert Jackson Bennett’s Shadow of the Leviathan series, A Drop of Corruption. The first book was amazing!
I recently featured All the Water in the World by Eiren Caffall on 25 Science Fiction Books to Read in 2025, so of course I’m excited to have a review copy:-)
I was so happy to be offered a copy of Ai Jiang’s upcoming fantasy book, A Palace Near the Wind. This will be the first fantasy of hers I’ve read, so I’m very curious!
I didn’t even know about The Last Session by Julia Bartz, so I was excited to be offered a copy. I read Bartz’s The Writing Retreat last year and really enjoyed it.
I actually already own a copy of The Vampire Tapestry by Suzy McKee Charnas, but Tor is releasing it under their Tor Essentials line and I wanted to finally read it.
Big thanks to DAW, Del Rey, St. Martin’s Press, Ai Jiang, Atria/Emily Bestler Books and Tor Books:-D
White Line Fever for sure – I wasn’t approved for an ARC, but that won’t stop me LOL.

I end up buying lots of books I don’t get approved for, like you said, it doesn’t stop me!
A Drop of Corruption is definitely on my list even though I still haven’t read the first book 😀 I think I’ll have to try and make it a priority for the start of next year.

Yes, definitely start that series:-)
I just got A Drop of Corruption as well! Very nice haul It’s tough to limit my picks this time of year thanks to all the 2025 releases becoming available.
Seems like a lot of bloggers got A Drop of Corruption, I can’t wait!
I also got a link for Drop of Corruption! Nice of them, especially considering how well it’s be going over here lately lol. 16 this week? You miiiiight be in trouble;)
16 for the month, not the week:-) But still, it does seem like a lot right? I’m super excited for A Drop of Corruption!
I’ve just added some of them to my tbr. Thanks for sharing!
It’s a pretty exciting bunch of books:-)
Nice haul! I’m hoping that WOOING THE WITCH QUEEN is in my romantasy book sub, so I’ve held out on requesting it.
Ooh so maybe there will be a special edition of it?
Maybe!!
Ooo… WHAT a wonderful trove of books, Tammy!! There’s three I’d give my eye teeth for… Wooing the Witch Queen, Direct Descendant and A Drop of Corruption. I’ll be looking out for these and thank you very much for the heads up:).
I hope we both love them:-)
I don’t have any of these on my list but all that bookmail is great! There are some great covers here.

A Drop Of Corruption!! I need that book so bad!!
But you got a lot of interesting books! I have just finished Wooing the Witch Queen and I highly enjoyed it! I am curious to know what you would think of it!
I can’t wait to read both of those:-)
I am intrigued by A Palace Near the Wind!
Me too, the cover is so pretty!
There were some good books sent out this month! I’m really excited to start The Relentless Legion before the end of the year.
Me too, I’m sad I couldn’t squeeze it in this month, but next month for sure:-)
Wow, look at all those upcoming books. I’d love to try the J.S. Dewes series. And I look forward to trying my next Robert Jackson Bennett novel or series.
Both of those are fantastic! It just depends on whether you’re in the mood for sci fi or fantasy.
Wow. The stack looks awesome. I am pretty choosy when picking books from Net Galley too.

Next year especially I’m trying to be very careful with NetGalley, but it’s hard!
Tor and its imprints have definitely been keeping me stocked with good reads lately!
Murder by Memory looks really good!
Rose of Jericho looks really interesting. I hope you have a wonderful week.
Here’s my STS if you wish to visit at this late date – https://justanothergirlandherbooks.blogspot.com/2024/11/stacking-shelves-november-23-2024.html
It looks like you’ve got a lot of interesting books to check out, I hope you enjoy them all. I think I’m most intrigued by The Otherwhere Post & A Palace Near The Wind but I have a fair few of the others on my TBR too. Hopefully I’ll get Tainted Cup read before the sequel releases too as I recently brought the ebook.
Great book haul. I’m very much looking forward to some of these. 2025 has many goodies to look forward to.
