What’s On My Plate – April 2021

2021 is zooming by, right? I can hardly believe it’s April already. April is also one of the most packed review months I’ve ever had, and for the first time ever, I’m not even going to list all the April releases I want to read, there are just too many! The books below are the ones I’m most excited for, so let’s jump right in:

Review books:

It’s hard to pick my top two of the month, but if I had to, Titan Song by Dan Stout is #1 and Whisper Down the Lane by Clay McLeod Chapman is #2. And in fact, these are the first two books I’ll be reviewing this month.

Eye of the Sh*t Storm by Jackson Ford is the third book in his Frost Files series, which I’ve really enjoyed. Each book tackles a natural disaster—the last one dealt with earthquakes—and this time Teagan Frost deals with an electrical storm. Lots of fun!

I’ve seen some great reviews already for The Light of the Midnight Stars by Rena Rossner. And isn’t that cover beautiful?

Near the Bone by Christina Henry sounds so good, and I’ve heard it’s very scary.

I hope I have time to read The Helm of Midnight by Marina Lostetter, I’ve read some outstanding reviews from some bloggers I trust!

Same with The Last Watch by J.S. Dewes, lots of buzz surrounding this sci-fi/thriller. I cannot wait!

I’m actually on the street team for Mina and the Undead by Amy McCaw, but boy I’m sucking big time at being on a street team, you guys! I don’t think it’s my kind of thing, I’m not sure why I agreed to do it. But anyway, I am excited to read the book!

The Drowning Kind by Jennifer McMahon. This is mystery/horror and I am having such good luck with horror this year!

Mirrorland by Carole Johnstone has some mixed reviews on Goodreads, but I’m still curious.

Instinct by Jason M. Hough. I’m still fondly remembering the last Jason Hough book I read about five years ago (Zero World), which is one reason I requested this. And I have heard Zero World is getting a sequel at some point, anyone out there read it?

I’m looking forward to Murder by Other Means (The Dispatcher #2) by John Scalzi, having really enjoyed the first book. Plus this is a novella which will allow me to read more books this month!

I’m excited to have a copy of John Shirley’s Stormland, a cyberpunk dystopian that sounds like fun!

Finally, I hope to read Lycanthropy and Other Chronic Illnesses by Kristen O’Neal. This is a YA that combines chronic illness and speculative elements.

Blog tours:

I’ve done it again and committed to more blog tours! I have a review stop for Caroline Hardaker’s Composite Creatures on the 13th, an excerpt from Birds of Paradise by Oliver K. Langmead on the 7th (my review of this book is already up and I loved it!), and an excerpt of The Sword Falls by A.J. Smith on the 27th.

Now for my March recap, below are all the books I reviewed last month. I had a fantastic month for the most part and was able to get nine reviews up! You can click on the titles if you’d like to read the review:

The Fall of Koli by M.R. Carey

Dead Space by Kali Wallace

The Ladies of the Secret Circus by Constance Sayers

Later by Stephen King

Birds of Paradise by Oliver K. Langmead

We Shall Sing a Song Into the Deep by Andrew Kelly Stewart

All the Murmuring Bones by A.G. Slatter

The Second Bell by Gabriela Houston

The Package by Sebastian Fitzek

Let me know what you’ll be reading this month! Do we have any books in common?

  1. I honestly don’t know what I’ll be reading this month. I’m just gonna wing it. But Liv Albert’s new Greek Mythology book will be read for sure, that I do know. Looking forward to all your April posts! 😀

  2. Looks like you have some great reads coming up in April (Geez, how is it April already?) I think I mostly have romances coming up this month, with maybe a thriller and one historical fiction thrown in there.

    • Tammy

It’s the perfect month for romance, lol. If I weren’t so genre oriented, I’d be sampling some romance too:-)

  3. I loved The Light of the Midnight Stars! I’m reading Near the Bone right now (hoping to finish today!) and it definitely is spooky–I’m really enjoying it. 🙂 I’m really curious about Mirrorland, also. Hope you have a great month!

    • Tammy

Thanks Jordan! Glad you loved The Light of the Midnight Stars, I can’t wait to dive in:-)

  4. You’re certainly enjoying your reading right now and April should be another good month. I’m looking forward to a few of these and I must go and look at Mina and the undead.
    Lynn 😀

  5. Wow, quite a bit to look forward to. Can’t wait to see what you think of some of these. Perhaps they’ll be future reads for me. 🙂

    • Tammy

I think there’s a good chance of that happening, there are quite a lot to choose from!

  6. Way too many good books this month. I can’t believe it’s April already. I can’t wait for your thoughts on Mina and the Undead and Stormi and I are doing a buddy read of Near the Bone. She hasn’t had good luck with Henry’s books, except for Lost Boy, so she’s given her one more try. Me on the hand, I adore her so we shall see!

    • Tammy

I wasn’t crazy about Henry’s last book, but I think Near to the Bone is going to be good:-)

  7. I know, the year is flying by! My April actually isn’t too bad – looking down the line, I think my June TBR is worse, but I’m definitely not done adding to this month’s list if a couple books that I’ve had my eye on turn out getting good reviews from you and other bloggers I follow!

    • Tammy

I definitely requested more than I can read this month, ugh. Oh well, I couldn’t help it, lol.

  8. Lots of interesting books on your list! I have Near the Bone, it’s probably my last attempt at this author, I really want to like her books! I am curious about Mina and the Undead so I hope you enjoy it as well as all those other ones! 🙂

    • Tammy

Yes, definitely start at the beginning with the Jackson Ford series. All the books are so good!

  9. You’ve got quite the full plate this month, but all of these books sound interesting so I hope it will be a great reading month for you. And you did great in March with reading & reviewing, I feel like a bunch of us are slowly coming out of like… review hibernation or something. My slump is finally gone and I feel like a new person lol
