Future Fiction #113 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

This week, three horror picks for fall, take a look:

A gripping psychological horror novel that delivers twist after twist, The Last House on Needless Street is a shocking exploration of the lengths we’ll go to protect ourselves from dark truths

A shocking and immersive read perfect for fans of Gone Girl and The Haunting of Hill House.

In a boarded-up house on a dead-end street at the edge of the wild Washington woods lives a family of three.

A teenage girl who isn’t allowed outside, not after last time.
A man who drinks alone in front of his TV, trying to ignore the gaps in his memory.
And a house cat who loves napping and reading the Bible.

An unspeakable secret binds them together, but when a new neighbor moves in next door, what is buried out among the birch trees may come back to haunt them all.

The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward. Releases in October 2021 from Tor Nightfire. Nightfire just revealed this cover, and I couldn’t be more excited! I’ve been hearing lots of buzz about this book, and in fact it already has blurbs from Stephen King and Joe Hill. Can’t wait!

A lush gothic fantasy about monsters and magic, set on the banks of a cursed lake. Perfect for fans of Naomi Novik and Brigid Kemmerer.

There are monsters in the world.

When Violeta Graceling arrives at haunted Lakesedge estate, she expects to find a monster. She knows the terrifying rumors about Rowan Sylvanan, who drowned his entire family when he was a boy. But neither the estate nor the monster are what they seem.

There are monsters in the woods.

As Leta falls for Rowan, she discovers he is bound to the Lord Under, the sinister death god lurking in the black waters of the lake. A creature to whom Leta is inexplicably drawn…

There’s a monster in the shadows, and now it knows my name.

Now, to save Rowan—and herself—Leta must confront the darkness in her past, including unraveling the mystery of her connection to the Lord Under.

Lakesedge (World at the Lake’s Edge #1) by Lyndall Clipstone. Releases in October 2021 from Henry Holt & Co. I can’t remember where I first saw this book, but I’ve been waiting for the cover to be revealed, and don’t you love it? I’m ready for more Gothic horror and this sounds so good. YA Gothic romance? That works:-D

A true-crime reporter and a prostitute take refuge from their normal lives on a plantation that is not as abandoned as they thought. In The House of Dust, twenty-two-year-old Noah Broyles brings the Southern Gothic roaring into the twenty-first century.

Bradley Ellison and Missy Holiday retreat from the world on a desolate plantation in rural Tennessee. For Brad, it is work—he must find a compelling story before the true-crime magazine he writes for decides his services are no longer required. For Missy, it is recuperation—four years at “the club” have left her drained.

But the town of Three Summers is not as they expected. While Brad soon witnesses a disturbing set of funeral rites, Missy witnesses a bizarre killing. And so they find that this abandoned plantation may not be as lifeless as they thought. For Brad and Missy, they must uncover the plantation known as Angel’s Landing past before their own past catches up with them.

The House of Dust by Noah Broyles. Releases in September 2021 from Inkshares. And more Gothic fiction! I love this evocative cover, and it sounds very creepy.

  1. Those covers are allll adorable! And I’m very, very tempted with Lakesedge as I had no problem with Mexican Gothic – but… if I do, then the nightmares will be miserable:((. WHYYY am I such a WUSS??? But thank you for sharing (I think…)

I’m sorry horror gives you nightmares. I think the real question is, why doesn’t horror give ME nightmares? lol.

  2. The covers on all three of these make me want to read them. I love the sound of The Last House on Needless Street. And then I read the description for Lakesedge . . . That sounds so good too! I hope you enjoy all of these when you read them, Tammy!

  3. I will take them all. 🙂 Your cover for The Last House on Needless Street is different than the one I had on my most anticipated reads list but I was like that title sounds familiar…lol. I will be curious what you think of that one!

  4. I thought all three were new to me, but apparently I had The Last House on Needless Street on my list but with a different cover…has this been released before, or was it UK? I also love teh sound of gothic, but the YA tag worries me, lol!

  5. I love the cover of Lakesedge I hadn’t seen it before now. And I’m definitely intrigued by Needless Street, I think it’s out next month where I live unless the dates been changed. I’ve been curious about it ever since I first saw the Stephen King quote on the cover.

  6. I featured Lakesedge too and am in love with the cover. Of course I’m now adding the other two to my wishlist as well. I have seen another cover for The House on Needless Street and have to say I like this one much better. Some great choices and I am really in a horror mood right now so your post spoke to me 🙂

  7. I just heard someone mention Lakeside the other day and I’m so intrigued, plus that cover seriously captivating! The House of Dust sounds so good. I don’t think I realized Needless Street had another cover, but I really like it! Also looking forward to that one.
