What’s On My Plate – November 2018

It’s that time again, when I try to organize my reading for the month. Hey, things don’t always go the way I plan, but that’s part of the fun! This month is CRAZY. Not only do I have a fair amount of review books on tap, but it’s also SciFi Month and I have big plans for that. I’ll have a separate post up later today if you want to check out what I’m trying to read/accomplish for this fun event, but this post is all about the non science fiction books I hope to read. And as usual, I may stray from this list, because I do have other review books to catch up on, and depending on my mood, I may change things up. Check it out:

Most anticipated books of November:

Someone Like Me by M.R. Carey. I’ve read everything by Carey so of course there’s no way I’ll miss this one!

Dragonshadow (Heartstone #2) by Elle Katharine White. I simply LOVED the first book in White’s Pride & Prejudice retelling, and I was surprised when this was announced. I wouldn’t miss it for the world!

City of Broken Magic by Mirah Bolender. I’ve already heard some bloggers talking about this fantasy debut, so I’m glad I have copy:-D

An Easy Death by Charlaine Harris. I’ll admit I wasn’t completely wowed by Harris’ last series, but this one seems more like my kind of story.

Empire of Sand by Tasha Suri. This fantasy debut has been getting lots of great reviews. I’m excited to start it!

Little White Lies by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. This isn’t my normal genre—YA mystery—but it sounded good when a publicist pitched it to me, and I’m eager to check it out.

As I mentioned, this is my fifth year taking part in SciFi Month, and it’s always one of my favorite months of the year. I have a whole kick-off post dedicated to it, so stop by later today and check it out!

Did you miss any of my October reviews? Click on the titles to read them:

The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell

Mecha Samurai Empire by Peter Tieryas

Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand

The Sisters of the Winter Wood by Rena Rossner

Straight Outta Fangton by C.T. Phipps

And that’s what’s on my plate this month…Are you planning to read any of these books?

  1. I’m picking Sawkill Girls up from the library tomorrow. My hold finally came in. I’m also really excited for City of Broken Magic. and the MR Carey book. Looks like you have some good reading ahead.

Every year I tell myself “this will be the year I don’t take on ANY review books in November, then I can just read whatever the hell I want SF.” But yeah, once again that didn’t work out so well;-)

  2. I’m game for most Middle Eastern / Indian fantasies, so Empire of Sand sounds like it’s right up my alley. And I still want to check out Heartstone at some point! GAH – so many series, it’s so easy to fall behind on them!

Btw I know you’re an Alice Hoffman fan… So I wanted to let you know that I should finish Practical Magic tonight, and I’ve enjoyed it a lot!

I’m so glad to hear that. I recommend The Rules of Magic as well, it was just as good, if not better:-)

  3. Thanks to your awesome review – I’m intrigued by The Silent Companions. I’ve also signed up to Sci Fi Month, thanks to your recommendation – I look forward to hearing what you make of Carey’s latest – I’m hoping to finally get to The Boy on the Bridge during November. Happy reading, Tammy:)

  4. I hummed a bit about Little White Lies but I’m trying to behave and keep November fairly clear and December totally clear.
I love the cover for Sawkill Girls.
    Lynn 😀

I just finished Little White Lies and it was really good. But I know what you mean about December, that is normally my “catch up” month.
