What’s On My Plate – February 2018

And we’re off! I feel like once January is under my belt, the rest of the year flies by. February is typically a “real life” busy month for me, so we’ll see how much I actually accomplish on the blog…but as usual I have big plans and lots of review books to read. Let’s dive in, shall we?

Books for review:

Pride and Prometheus by John Kessel. I’m ready to dive into this “Frankenstein meets Jane Austen” Gothic thriller!

Outpost by W. Michael Gear. I have two “One Word Title” books to read this month, and I’ll use one of them for my Monthly Motif Reading Challenge over at Girlxoxo. (February’s theme)

Fire and Bone by Rachel A. Marks. Rachel sent me a copy of her book several months ago, and I’m excited that it’s finally release month!

Tess of the Road by Rachel Hartman. I have not yet read Hartman’s Seraphina series, so I’m hoping I can jump into her new series without being too confused.

Corpse Cold: New American Folklore edited by John Brhel and Joseph Sullivan. It’s been quite a while since I agreed to review this small press publication, and I’m glad I can finally squeeze it in.

Tempests and Slaughter by Tamora Pierce. I received an unsolicited copy of this book, and this is one case where I’m beyond excited to read and review something I didn’t request!

Semiosis by Sue Burke. Oh Semiosis, you ruined my blue cover color scheme! LOL. Anyway, I’m excited to get to this, and I may be reading it when this post goes up.

The Gone World by Tom Sweterlitsch. I’ve had a review copy on my Kindle for MONTHS, so I’m glad it’s finally time to schedule this in.

Child of a Mad God by R.A. Salvatore. I received this unsolicited, but again I’m intrigued and since I’ve never read Salvatore, I’m curious to check him out.

Blog Tour/ Catch Up (January) & Get Ahead (March):

I’m joining the By a Charm & a Curse blog tour on February 16th, so look for my review then (although now that I think of it, I have not received a confirmation email regarding this tour, so we’ll see what happens.) I poked my head in and read the first few pages and I love the dark circus atmosphere!

I really wanted to get to The Immortalists last month but just couldn’t. I will read this at some point, we’ll see if I can squeeze it in for February.

And one of my most anticipated books of March—or I should say, of 2018!—is The Hunger by Alma Katsu. Alma is such a wonderful creature, and I’ve been following her writing journey since I read her debut in 2011, The Taker. Her latest releases on March 8th, and I’d love to get an early review up if I can.

And just in case you missed my January reviews, you can catch them here:

The Sky is Yours by Chandler Klang Smith

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

Winterglass by Benjanun Sriduangkaew

Cry Your Way Home by Damien Angelica Walters

Black Star Renegades by Michael Moreci

An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson

Beneath the Sugar Sky by Seanan McGuire

Perfect Little Stitches and Other Stories by Deborah Sheldon

And that’s my month! Let me know if you plan on reading any of these books:-D

I know that feeling, Stormi:-) Sometimes you just don’t want to waste your time if other bloggers don’t love the book. I hope to get to as many of these as I can:-)

  1. I picked up The Cruel Prince from the library earlier this week. I’m excited to start it soon. I know what you mean, I have at least one, maybe two, I’d like to push forward to February that I just didn’t get to in January. I hope to grab The Outpost when it comes out and I have a copy of The Hunger too and am super excited for it. Hope we both have wonderful reading months!
Barb (boxermommyreads) recently posted…Hmmm…So That’s Why It’s Called “Into the Black Nowhere”My Profile

I think February is going to be great! Too bad it’s a short month which means less days for reading:-/

  2. I don’t think Tess of the Road is connected to the Seraphina books, except that it just takes place in the same world as that series… Either way, I’m looking forward to that book, as well as Tamora Pierce’s new one. So I’m looking forward to both of those reviews when they’re ready!

I’m so excited to start Tempests and Slaughter, and good to know about Tess of the Road, I feel better about reading it now:-)

  3. As ever, an amazing lineup of books, Tammy. I really like the sound of Outpost and as I enjoyed Seraphina, I am attracted by Tess of the Road. Looking forward to discovering what you make of these books – what a successful start to your reading year. I hope continue in this way.

I’m curious to see what you think about Outpost. That’s the one I’m most drawn to. And I just finished reading Winterglass, which I’d picked up based on your review. Loved it, so thank you!

Yep I think there are plenty of awesome books to choose from. I definitely won’t get to all of them!

  5. Corpse Cold has an amazing cover! I never heard of this book but it’s hard to keep up with smaller publishing houses as the bigger ones tend to be a bit overwhelming with their constant releases. I will be keeping an eye out for your review 🙂

I do love this cover. I know there are so many hidden gems out there with small publishers, but you’re right, it’s hard to keep up with everything:-)

Yeah, what’s up with all the blue book covers? Or maybe I’m just drawn to blue and that’s why I have so many, lol.

  6. Lots of lovely books to look forward to – a few of which are also on my plate.
I would definitely like to read the Tamora Pierce book and that cover for Corpse Cold is excellent.
    Lynn 😀

  7. So many books I didn’t even know about! The Gone World looks so good. I’m all about time travel sci-fi. I also couldn’t get to The Immortalists in January so I hope to squeeze it in this month.

I saw you rate The Sky is Yours 5 stars on Goodreads, read the blurb and I’ve been so curious about it ever since!
