Waiting on Wednesday [280] – SPINNING SILVER by Naomi Novik

Waiting on Wednesdays is the brainchild of Jill at Breaking the Spine, and because Jill isn’t hosting it any more, I’m now linking up with Can’t Wait Wednesday at Wishful Endings. Stop over there and link up your “Can’t Wait” book of the week!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or whatever holiday you celebrate! I’m exhausted as I am after every Christmas, and each year I swear I’m going to make things less stressful on myself the next year. In any case, it was lovely to see my family, but boy am I glad to be home!

This is the last Waiting on Wednesday of the year, and I just saw the cover for this book and knew I had to feature it this week:

Miryem is the daughter and granddaughter of moneylenders… but her father isn’t a very good one. Free to lend and reluctant to collect, he has loaned out most of his wife’s dowry and left the family on the edge of poverty–until Miryem steps in. Hardening her heart against her fellow villagers’ pleas, she sets out to collect what is owed–and finds herself more than up to the task. When her grandfather loans her a pouch of silver pennies, she brings it back full of gold.

But having the reputation of being able to change silver to gold can be more trouble than it’s worth–especially when her fate becomes tangled with the cold creatures that haunt the wood, and whose king has learned of her reputation and wants to exploit it for reasons Miryem cannot understand.

Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik. Releases in July 2018 from Del Rey. No one who is familiar with Novik’s Uprooted will doubt for a moment that this is a Naomi Novik book, since the cover was designed by the same artist who did her last book. Having loved Uprooted, I am beyond excited to see what she comes up with next! If you are interested, there is an excerpt from Spinning Silver at theverge.com.

Let me know what you’re waiting on this week:-D

I think the cover is going to confuse a lot of people. It very much looks like a sequel, but I’m hoping it’s just as good as Uprooted:-)

My “next” list is amazingly long, good luck getting to Uprooted! It really is worth it, in my opinion.

It definitely looks like a sequel, but I’m sure it will grab all the fans of Uprooted, which I’m sure was the publisher’s intention.

  2. Uprooted had such a mixed reception that I couldn’t decide if I wanted to try it out or not anymore. Spinning Silver does however sound fascinating and hopefully it’ll be awesome!

  3. I love the cover and the way it’s similar to Uprooted and this sounds like a spin (sorry, no pun intended) on the Rumplestiltskin tale.
I’ll definitely be keen to get to this one
    Lynn 😀
