Sci-Fi Month 2017 – Introduction

Welcome to Sci-Fi Month 2017, where bloggers devote the ENTIRE month of November to celebrating the wonderful books, movies, television and more that delve into the genre of science fiction.

This year, Rinn from Rinn Reads is stepping down from hosting duties, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t moving full steam ahead! (Although, I will miss Rinn for sure!) This year’s hosts are Lisa and Imyril, so make sure to check out their blogs, and if you’d like to participate as well, you can find all the information over at their sites.

I think this is my fourth year participating, and I look forward to it every year. This is my introduction post, to give you an idea of some of the things I have planned (although surprises may pop up, so make sure you’re subscribed to this blog so you don’t miss anything). Yesterday was my What’s On My Plate post for November, which includes some non-sci-fi related books, but I’ll be squeezing in science fiction too. My plan is to choose from the following six books, although I know I won’t get to all of them. Here’s what I hope to post this month:

The Books:

Artemis by Andy Weir. Weir’s publisher was kind enough to publish this book during Sci-Fi Month! So of course, I will be reading this soon.

Shattered Minds by Laura Lam. I’m reaching back into June’s pile for this science fiction read. Since I just couldn’t get to it, I definitely want it to be part of my Sci-Fi Month pile this year.

The Naked World by Eli K.P. William. William’s follow up to the crazy Cash Crash Jubilee will be released this month, and I’m looking forward to the sequel.

The Prey of Gods by Nicky Drayden. Here’s another review book that I just couldn’t fit in back in June, but I’ve heard such good things that I knew I would be slotting it in the schedule at some point.

Borne by Jeff VanderMeer. Another review fail (!) from earlier in the year. But seriously this would be perfect for Sci-Fi Month!

Paradox Bound by Peter Clines. Another review book I just didn’t get to, I’d love to squeeze this time travel story in if possible.

Sci-Fi Month Waiting on Wednesdays

As in previous years, I will be featuring science fiction picks each week (starting next Wednesday)! So don’t forget to stop by each Wednesday to see some fabulous upcoming sci-fi reads.

Top Ten Lists

I plan on doing at least one Top Ten list highlighting adult and young adult sci-fi books that will come out in 2018. Last year I combined the list and did five and five, but depending on how many I can find, I may split it up into two lists. I know for sure that as usual, science fiction YA is out of control next year!

Giveaways and More

I will be hosting at least one giveaway at the end of the month, and I may throw in another one if I feel inspired. I’m also thinking about a couple of other ideas that aren’t fully developed, but you’ll be the first to know!

Are you participating in Sci-Fi Month? Let me know in the comments!

  1. This is going to be a great month! I hope we’ll both love Artemis. I really want to try Clines newest, but I’m so far down the hold list that I won’t be getting it for a couple of months.

Me too, I’ve seen some mixed reviews of Artemis, but then a lot of people didn’t like The Martian, so I’m not too worried

Hmm, well I’m very curious about your review now. Hopefully I’ll be reading it soon so I can compare:-)

  2. I look forward to seeing what you post during Sci-Fi month. I’m participating as well but am avoiding pinning down any specific reviews or post. LOL

I’ll check out your posts for sure, Michael! I agree, I don’t like to schedule too much, it kind of depends on my mood:-)

  3. Ooooh Shattered Minds – can’t wait to see what you make of that 🙂 Also curious about the Vandermeer – I know nothing about it, and I am curious!

  4. I’m not super into sci-fi, but I am going to read Artemis as I was sent an ARC and it actually looks good! I might peruse my bookshelves and attempt to find another sci-fi book on my shelves after I finish Artemis. I had no idea November was science fiction month!
