What’s On My Plate – November 2017

2017 is rapidly coming to a close, and I’m just not ready yet! There are still so many 2017 books that I haven’t been able to get to. November started out with only a few review books, but something happened and suddenly I feel a bit overwhelmed. Luckily, December is usually my “catch up” month, so I hope to do exactly that to end out the year.

Meanwhile, there are some AWESOME books coming out this month, and I have quite a packed schedule, as you will see:

Review books:

Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant. This is my MOST anticipated book of the month for sure! This is a sequel to Grant’s Rolling in the Deep, if you haven’t heard me gushing about that book before. I’ll be reading this very soon!

The Naturalist by Andrew Mayne. True story: I left a comment on a blog post of a review of this book, and a publicist saw my comment and contacted me to see if I wanted a review copy. I think that’s happened to me a couple of times before, so just a reminder to leave comments, you never know who’s reading them!

Jade City by Fonda Lee. I can’t wait to get started on this fantasy! I have not read Lee’s books before, but this one is getting some great reviews.

The Nine by Tracy Townsend. I’m about half way through this and loving it! The Nine is a breath of fresh air after some of the books I’ve been reading lately. Intricate world building and characterization, an unusual premise, and an all around unique read. I can’t wait to share my thoughts!

Weave a Circle Round by Kari Maaren. I was just approved for this book on NetGalley, so it looks like my November is even busier than I thought!

Creatures of Will & Temper by Molly Tanzer. I bought a copy of Tanzer’s last book but just couldn’t find time to read it. Now that I have a review copy of her latest, I will definitely be checking it out. Some mixed reviews, but readers are calling it “odd” and “strange,” which usually means it will work for me.

Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance by Ruth Emmie Lang. I’m taking a gamble on this book. The format seems like it’s going to be a bit different. But it’s reminding me a little of Alice Hoffman, so I’m willing to try it out.

Kill Creek by Scott Thomas. This is another recent NetGalley acquisition, and I’m going to try to squeeze it in. I may not get to it this month, but we’ll see.

Author Interview (and giveaway?):

I’m excited to be hosting author Tracy Townsend sometime this month (date still hasn’t been confirmed) with an interview, so stay tuned for more information! There might be a giveaway of the book as well:-D

And finally, it’s time for:

Every November, Sci-Fi Month rolls around, and this year is no exception. This year the hosts have changed, but it still promises to be tons of fun. Tomorrow I’ll be posting my “kick off” post to let you in on my plans for the month (including MORE books for review!) Stop back here to see what’s happening, and if you are a blogger, it’s not too late to join yourself! Click the banner above for more information.

Finally, if you missed any of my October reviews, here is what I read and reviewed last month. You can click on the titles to read my thoughts!

The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman

Boneyard by Seanan McGuire

Mary Rose by Geoffrey Girard

The Murders of Molly Southbourne by Tade Thompson

Spliced by Jon McGoran

An Unkindness of Magicians by Kat Howard

Sparked by Helena

  1. You had some excellent reading last month. I’ve heard good things about Jade City so hope that works out well for you. I’m currently reading The Nine – it seems pretty good so far although it’s early days. I fancy Kill Creek too.
    Lynn 😀

The Nine took a bit to really get going for me, but I’m about 1/3 of the way through and it’s very addictive. Also very intricately plotted and you have to really pay attention:-0

  2. I feel like McGuire is almost releasing a book a month this year, I’m not complaining but sometimes I wonder if the woman sleeps 😛

I know what you mean! And just about everything I’ve read of hers is pretty high quality, so she’s just a hard worker, I guess:-)

  3. I love the sound of The Nine and I’m keen to see what you make of Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance… I hope you have a great reading month in November:)
