Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where each week bloggers are given a different top ten theme to blog about.
I love making seasonal lists, and today it’s time to share the books we’re most looking forward to reading this Fall! For my purposes, I consider “Fall” to be the months of September, October and November, so everything on my list is being released in those months. This was very hard to narrow down, so keep in mind these are just ten of the books I want to read this Fall (in order of release date):
The Ruin of Angels by Max Gladstone. I’ve already missed the release date for this book (yes, what a surprise, I’m behind in my reading!) but I will be reading it in the next few weeks for sure. (9/5)
Sourdough by Robin Sloan. Another review book that I hope to get to soon, I can’t wait to see what Sloan writes as a follow-up to his amazing Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore. (9/5)
An Unkindness of Magicians by Kat Howard. Next on my reading list is Howard’s sophomore novel, after her atmospheric and stylish Roses and Rot. I’m really looking forward to starting this! (9/26)
The Genius Plague by David Walton. I love speculative fiction that involves mushrooms and fungi (I know, weird!), and this book not only has an eye-catching cover, but sounds really good. (10/3)
The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman. This is a prequel to Practical Magic, and I couldn’t be happier to not only dive back into an Alice Hoffman book, but revisit some of the characters from one of my favorites. (10/10)
La Belle Sauvage (The Book of Dust #1) by Philip Pullman. I recently did a reread of The Golden Compass in preparation for Pullman’s new prequel series. Excited! (10/19)
Jade City by Fonda Lee. I’ve heard good things about this author, although I haven’t read her books before. This book has awesome reviews on Goodreads, and I can’t wait to get a copy. (11/7)
Artemis by Andy Weir. Who doesn’t know that Weir has a new book coming out? I am one of those readers who loved The Martian, so I have high hopes for this one. (11/14)
Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant. This is a sequel to Rolling in the Deep, a book about killer mermaids, although I can’t image where the author is taking the sequel. But I’m ready to find out! (11/14)
The Nine by Tracy Townsend. This just sounds so good. Check out the description on Goodreads for yourself:-) (11/14)

I plan on reading The Unkindness of Magicians and The Rules of Magic. I’m also really curious about Into the Drowning Deep but haven’t read the first one yet. So many good books coming out this fall!

I have a feeling Into the Drowning Deep is going to be more of a standalone, simply because the book is switching publishers, and I think it would be strange to make it necessary to read the first book (especially since Rolling in the Deep was a limited edition and expensive to buy, although maybe that’s changed by now.)
I’m so far behind! Many on your list sound wonderful (already planning to read Kat’s). I don’t know whether to skip ahead or stick to the plan.
I’m in the middle of Ruin of Angels & loving it. Max has created an amazing world with compelling characters. Many in this book are old friends.
Next will be Taste of Marrow, the sequel to River of Teeth. Sarah Gailey has veered off from history to an almost plausible “might have been” – but mostly this is about the characters, and maybe redemption.
Trying not to look too far beyond that, because, see first sentences above. But I am also looking forward to JY Yang’s Tensorate novellas, which I’ve taken to calling the Red and the Black!
Your list sounds awesome! I have Taste of Marrow on my list too, but it didn’t make my top ten. And I’m dying to read the JY Yang novellas as well. So happy to hear the Ruin of Angels is so good:-)
I’m really looking forward to Artemis. And also curious about The Nine, hoping to fit that one into my reading schedule.

We’ve got a lot of overlap this season! I’ve already reviewed Ruin of Angels, and I plan to get to Jade City, Artemis, and An Unkindness of Magicians. I’m too much of a wimp to try Mira Grant’s horror!
I thought The Nine sounded interesting, but I was so full up on ARCs that I had to pass it up. I’ll be interested to hear what you think!

I’m really looking forward to Artemis despite the mediocre reviews I’ve read so far. And Sourdough! I’m on hold for that at the library. I so wanted to make time for a golden compass re-read myself but it just didn’t happen. Maybe I’ll just hold off on reading the new one until I find the time. 🙂

Definitely hard to narrow down, especially for October! I know I have a ton of books on my tbr released that month and it’s going to be tough fitting it all in but hopefully a lighter November should help. I just finished An Unkindness of Magicians and I hoping to tackle The Genius Plague next! 😀

I just requested Artemis from the library now they’ve finally put it on their system. It will be my first book by this author as I never got around to The Martian (but I do have a copy).
An Unkindness of Magicians is another one I’m looking out for, I usually love anything like that.
I wonder whether to check out The Rules of Magic too, even though I’ve only seen the movie of Practical Magic.

I love this list, Tammy! As ever, reading about your TBR list makes me drool with envy. I haven’t read this Mira Grant series and need to get hold of the first one – I also love the sound of the Alice Hoffman book – another series that has slipped past me for some reason. But I can testify to the excellent of Artemis – which I got hold of the arc, I couldn’t resist tucking into it. And yes… it’s great!

I keep forgetting about Artemis! And La Belle Sauvage! I know I pre-ordered that one for sure. But between other new books by Leigh Bardugo, Kristin Cashore, Rae Carson, Anna-Marie McLemore, and maybe one or two others, I’m already looking at having to push some of my 2017 books till next year. It’s too hard to keep up with them all. *lol*
