Waiting on Wednesday [259] – BEFORE MARS by Emma Newman

Waiting on Wednesdays is the brainchild of Jill at Breaking the Spine, and because Jill isn’t hosting it any more, I’m now linking up with Can’t Wait Wednesday at Wishful Endings. Stop over there and link up your “Can’t Wait” book of the week!

I just happened to stumble upon this book, and I knew it would be a perfect WOW pick this week:

Anna Kubrick finally arrives on Mars, after six months of travel, for her new job as a geologist and de facto artist-in-residence. Already she feels like she is losing the connection with her husband and baby at home on Earth. She tries to bond as much as she can with the five others in the station, and get on with her work.

After only a few days, Anna finds a mysterious note written in her own handwriting, warning her not to trust the colony neurophysiologist or psychologist. But there’s just one problem: She doesn’t remember writing it. She also can’t remember what happened to her wedding ring—or where the fake replacement came from. Or how her footprints ended up in a place that she has no memory of going to.

When one of her coworkers dies, Anna must delve deeper into these mysteries—despite her fears that she may be going insane, regardless of what horrors she may encounter, and what they may do to her rapidly-splintering mind.

Before Mars (Planetfall #3) by Emma Newman. Releases in April 2018 from Ace Books. After Atlas was AMAZING and I cannot wait to see what’s up Emma Newman’s sleeves next! I understand this is a four book series, so we’ll still have one more after this! And btw, these all act as stand-alones, so you can really read them in any order.

Are you reading this series? Let me know what you’re waiting on this week:-D

This is one of those series that is getting better and better. I didn’t love the first book (but lots of people did) and I LOVED the second, so we’ll see:-)

Sorta reminds me of Six Wakes. This sounds intriguing do I’m glad it’s a stand alone (didn’t check out the preceeding books).

If it’s half as good as Six Wakes, then I’ll be very happy:-) Yes, I like that these are standalones, it’s so hard to jump into a new series that’s already three books in.

  2. I really like the way this one sounds. Glad they read like standalones. I’ll have to look into it. Thanks for sharing it.

  3. Ooh I love that cover. And finding a note to oneself in your own handwriting, but no memory? Freeeaky!! I think I want this one. 🙂

And how cool would it be to be a geologist on Mars????
