Waiting on Wednesday [248] – ARTEMIS by Andy Weir

Waiting on Wednesday is the brainchild of Breaking the Spine, although Jill isn’t hosting this meme anymore. In any case, I will continue to post Waiting on Wednesdays, simply because it’s one of my favorite posts to do each week:-D

I honestly wasn’t going to post this week, since I’m kind of taking a break and I literally have nothing ready to post. BUT I ran across this book and I could NOT resist! I don’t even really care what it’s about, simply that it’s ANDY WEIR.

The bestselling author of The Martian returns with an irresistible new near-future thriller—a heist story set on the moon.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal.

Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you’re not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you’ve got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent.

Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down. But pulling off the impossible is just the start of her problems, as she learns that she’s stepped square into a conspiracy for control of Artemis itself—and that now, her only chance at survival lies in a gambit even riskier than the first.

Artemis by Andy Weir. Releases in November 2017 from Crown Books. I’m so curious to read his follow-up to The Martian, which was one of my favorite books a few years ago. I hope he wasn’t just a one-hit wonder! I love that the MC is female, and a criminal to boot! I know I’ll be clearing my reading schedule when November rolls around!

Are you an Andy Weir fan? Let me know what you’re waiting on this week:-D

I just hope it’s as funny as The Martian, that was one of the things I loved the most!

  1. I’ve not read The Martian, although I feel like Hannah and I may be the two last people on Earth who haven’t. I think the concept of a heist on the moon sounds really unique. Hope you love this one and that you can get your hands on an early copy!

Ha ha, I’m sure there are many people who haven’t read The Martian, but I recommend it, it’s a blast:-)

The movie was fantastic too, in my opinion. Hoping for more of the same from his new book:-)

I’m glad you loved The Martian as well! I have a good feeling about this. He’s such a good researcher, that it’s bound to be good *crosses fingers*!

  2. My encounter with The Martian, in book form, was not a good one – just for once I happened to like the movie far better than I did the book. But when I saw the news of this book yesterday, on IO9, I thought I would give this author a second chance, in the hope that his writing skills improved with time. And then there’s the Moon to be considered: how could I resist a story set on it? 🙂
    Thanks for sharing!

It was such a fun book, and knowing how much you love science, I think you’d LOVE it. The science is a big part of the story, and I thought it was fascinating.

Had no idea this was on the way, but I loved The Martian, and who can turn down a good heist story, especially one set on the moon?

It surprised me too, it just popped up in Facebook, I think, since I follow the author. I was very happy to see it, though:-)
