It’s April! In Southern California, the weather often skips right over spring and goes directly to summer, but these days it sure feels like spring here, it’s been beautiful. I hope that wherever you live, spring is starting to show itself!
March wasn’t the best reading month I’ve ever had:-/ Not sure what happened, but I completely failed at reading most of my March review books. Hopefully April will be better! Here’s what I hope to read and review this month:
April titles:
Waking Gods by Sylvain Neuvel. It seems like I’ve been waiting for this book forever! Now the release date is upon us, I’ll be reading this very soon.
Ararat by Christopher Golden. Very excited to dive into this paranormal/horror story.
Brimstone by Cherie Priest. I’ve seen some less than enthusiastic reviews of this book, but I’m still planning on reading it. I trust Priest to deliver an interesting story!
Borne by Jeff VanderMeer. I was just approved for this book on NetGalley, just in time to slide onto my April review pile!
The House of Binding Thorns by Aliette de Bodard. Yes, I do need to read book one first! Pressure!
The Ship by Antonia Honeywell. This just arrived from Orbit, and I’m looking forward to this post apocalyptic tale that takes place at sea.
March titles I didn’t get to:
Chalk by Paul Cornell. Back on the pile, I’ll most likely have started this by the time this post goes live.
Dear Sweet Filthy World by Caitlín R. Kiernan. Really looking forward to this short story collection.
From Ice to Ashes by Rhett C. Bruno. Another March book that I just didn’t manage to get to, but will be reviewing this month.
Other things:
Stop by on the 15th for my monthly Book Review Giveaway! And I’ll be helping Apex Magazine with their annual magazine drive sometime this month (date to be determined), so keep an eye out for that. I’ll have an interview with some of the marvelous Apex folks, and lots of information on how you can support and subscribe to the fantastic Apex Magazine.
I just found out I’m going to be hosting a giveaway for Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor, which I’m very excited about! Check back on April 17th for more details.
And as usually happens, surprises pop up during the month that I’m not expecting, so stop by frequently so you don’t miss anything.
I’ve looked at The Ship and I’m curious about the story, since it sounds like something different from the usual post-apocalyptic scenarios. Looking forward to your comments! 🙂

The Ship sounds fascinating, especially with the maritime setting. I don’t think I’ve heard of it before now, either. Hope you get to read and review it this month!
I just realized that The Ship is already out in the UK with a different cover, which I recognized right away. I actually love the US cover much better, so we’ll see:-)
I have ship as well. Some early reviews have me worried but I will probably try it out anyway. I think I have Waking Gods on audio but so far I can’t get it to work.

I love the sound of Brimstone and Waking Gods – I was very seriously tempted when I saw them on Netgalley, but I already had a tranche of books scheduled for March and April, so I passed. I can recommend From Ice to Ashes – it’s a really enjoyable action-packed space opera set in an interesting world. I enjoy Paul Cornell’s writing – he’s a great talent, but his work tends to be quite dark, so I’m looking forward to seeing what you make of Chalk. Have a great reading month in April:)).

I am not sure if Spring knows it’s here or not here cause it is still pretty cool here in Mo. Normally by now it’s pretty nice and now it’s just rain and I am so tired of it and it’s keeping the temps pretty cool. 🙁 You have some cool books coming up so I hope you enjoy them all! 🙂

Oh, some great titles for April. I am really curious to hear how Arrat is. I really enjoyed Snowblind, but then read something else by Golden that didn’t work quite as well for me (so I hesitated to request another of his books)

I’m curious about the ship as well. It looks great. I hope we both love Brimstone. Seems it’s been colder here today than it has in the past few weeks. Love the blossoms though.

We had a weird heat wave a few weeks ago, and I was worried that summer was here, but nope, the weather’s back to warm and cool, at least for a while!
Spring is definitely here on the east coast, as well. Love seeing all the flowers blooming. I’m most interested in reading, and hearing your take, on Ararat, Borne, and The House of Binding Thorns. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read from Aliette de Bodard, but the other 2 authors are new to me.
Aliette de Bodard is new to me, I’m going to attempt to read the first two books in the series this month.
My TBR for this month looks a lot like yours! Just started Waking Gods and my experience right now is an improvement over the first book, so that’s a good sign. I’m also a bit nervous about starting Brimstone…I loved The Family Plot, but it seems like her new book is getting a lot of mixed reactions. I just hope we’ll both enjoy all our April books 🙂

I’ve discovered after the last two books I read (reviews to follow) that I’m now leery of Goodreads ratings, since both books had super high ratings and I didn’t love either book. Hopefully with Brimstone it will be the opposite:-)

I’m looking forward to Waking Gods and Brimstone – although I loved the Family Plot so much so it makes me feel a little nervous about liking the next book quite as much – but you never know.
The Ship I read quite some time ago, I thought it had some interesting elements but was one of those books that felt more YA than I’d hoped for – which is usually a feeling I experience when I don’t think I’m being given enough detail or background.

March was a bleh reading month for me, too. But you’re in for a treat with Aliette de Bodard’s books, they’re really creative and cool. For what it’s worth, I thought that The House of Binding Thorns was leagues better than the first one!
