The year is 2020. For years, she’s warned everyone: “The Americans are coming.” Now their drones arrive in the middle of a succession crisis—the leader of the American Commonwealth is dying and the vultures are circling.
In another timeline, the U.S. has recruited Rita, Miriam’s estranged daughter, to spy across timelines and bring down any remaining world-walkers who might threaten national security. But her handlers are keeping information from her.
Two nuclear superpowers are set on a collision course. Two increasingly desperate paratime espionage agencies are fumbling around in the dark, trying to find a solution to the first contact problem that doesn’t result in a nuclear holocaust. And two women—a mother and her long-lost, adopted daughter—are about to find themselves on opposite sides of the confrontation.
Empire Games by Charles Stross, releases in January 2017 from Tor Books. Wow, this sounds great! A complex mother/daughter/spy/SF novel sounds like something I need right now:-)

This does sound like an intense read. I don’t read a lot of sci-fi and am trying to move into it slowly so it may be too much for me. However, I am loving everyone’s Sci-fi month posts because it’s giving me some great insight into the genre.

The things I like about sci-fi is that there really are lots of subgenres, so I think there is something for everyone.
Intriguing… I’ve never read Stross but I keep hearing enthusiastic comments about his works, so this might be a good place to start. And I love the cover with the moving cars! 🙂

I’ve not read Charles Stross yet, though I do have several of his books kicking around my shelves. I should probably read those first, but this does sound interesting!

I feel like I might have one or two of his Laundry Files books, might have to search my shelves and see one of these days. He’s been writing for quite some time, I think.
Love that animated cover! This one sounds like it has a lot of moving parts and really interesting. And I always like time travel so any variation on that is good. 🙂

Oh, your are so sweet:-) I was actually thinking of doing a blog redesign soon (maybe I’m just tired of it). But yes, I’ve been blogging for 5 years so I’ve learned a lot about all aspects of blogging, including design.
I’ve found that finding the right theme is the hardest. Because you have to tweak it for an hour or two to find out if it can do the things you want it to do. And then, having invested all those hours, you have to drop it if it doesn’t have what you want. That’s the worst for me cause I just haven’t got that time -.-
Your blog looks really nice though, no need to redesign, unless you’re tired of it, of course 🙂
