Over-Booked [59] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my most recent book acquisitions with you! I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves at Tynga’s Reviews and The Sunday Post at the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

This week I have a little of everything: some review books, an awesome purchase, and a surprise contest win! Check it out:

Books for review:

ob-11-5

Some very cool books arrived during the past few weeks! From Tor Books, Dark Shadows: Heiress of Collinwood by Lara Parker. I used to watch the original Dark Shadows way back in the day, and I still have a soft spot in my heart. I’m looking forward to this sequel of sorts, a story that takes place after the show ended. Thank you Tor!

Congress of Secrets by Stephanie Burgis. A finished paperback courtesy of Pyr, I am looking forward to reading and reviewing this soon. Big thanks to Pyr!

Department Zero by Paul Crilley. I was thrilled to get this review copy, also from Pyr, for this Lovecraft-inspired story that looks soo good. Look for my review in early January! Thank you Pyr:-)

Zodiac by Sam Wilson. Another awesome book from Pegasus Books, I’m pretty darn excited to dive into this. Not only is the cover stunning, but the story sounds great: a thriller with a science fiction twist. Big thanks to Pegasus!

Won/Purchased:

ob-11-5-2

Huge thanks to Danya at Fine Print and Ace Books for the amazing Erin Lindsey trilogy! I’ve been dying to start reading it, and now I have no excuses:-) I was lucky enough to win all three books: The Bloodforged, The Bloodsworn and The Bloodbound. (oops I think I’ve got the photo out of order!)

And of course, I had to purchase a copy of Gemina by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman. I have an ARC, but this finished version has artwork/drawings by Marie Lu! Super excited to read this, I hear it’s pretty amazing:-)

Digital review copies:

Heartstone by Elle Katharine White. Such a gorgeous cover! This is a fantasy retelling of Pride and Prejudice, and who among us can resist that?? Not me, certainly:-) Thank you Harper Voyager:-D

Haven, Kansas by Alethea Kontis. The author contacted me and asked if I’d like to read her latest, a “…literary slasher for the twenty-first century!” Wow. Again I ask, who can resist that? Especially when the name Joss Whedon is thrown about. Kontis has been traditionally published before, and it looks like she’s trying out the self-publishing route this time. I can’t wait! Thank you Alethea!

Idle Ingredients by Matt Wallace. This is the fourth novella in Wallace’s Sin du Jour series, one I am happy to say I am all caught up with. I love this eye-catching cover, too. Thanks to Tor.com for the review copy!

All Our Wrong Todays by Elan Mastai. I received a NetGalley invitation to review this, which I eagerly accepted. This is a crazy sounding time travel story that I believe is getting lots of great reviews already.

Let me know if you’re planning on reading any of these books as well:-D

  1. You got some good looking ones. I got an email from amazon about Haven, Kansas but I hadn’t heard of the author but your little blurb there makes me want to go and check it out now. 🙂 I really need to dig into the Sin Du Jour series as I have the first one and heard it’s really good.

    Have a great weekend,

I extra excited about Haven, Kansas because I read an interview on another blog today and I hope to read it soon:-)

  2. Congrats on the Bloodforged Trilogy win! I need to get a hold of the first book myself. I’m also interested in Congress of Secrets and Heartstone, so I’m looking forward to your reviews on either.

As for my newest books, I started Blood For Blood by Ryan Graudin last night (sequel to last year’s Wolf By Wolf) and it’s already hard to put down. Also got Ursula K. Le Guin’s new short story and novella collections. Can’t wait to read either one, but goodness they’re HUGE! 700 and 800 pages each! I’ll have to take them slowly. *lol*

These physical books are so well produced, with the plastic cover that peeks through to the actual book to the interior. But I am interested in checking out the audios at some point, since you recommend them so highly!

  3. Wow Dark Shadows! I remember that one too vaguely… as a kid I watched some of them. And Zodiac looks interesting (love that cover). The Erin Lindsey covers are nice too, whoever did the cover art did a great job.

    Heartstone certainly looks interesting!

I agree, I like the Erin Lindsey covers because they aren’t what I would call “typical” fantasy artwork.

  4. You always get some of the most interesting books that I’ve never heard of before! Department Zero sounds pretty funny and I love the sound of Zodiac too. I also snagged a digital copy of All Our Wrong Todays. Really excited for that one. 🙂
