Tammy’s Top Ten Books for Fall 2016

fall-reading

The Broke and the Bookish hosts Top Ten Tuesday, and even though they’ve listed the topic of Top Ten Fall Books for a date a few weeks away, I have another blog post scheduled for that day. But I didn’t want to miss out, because I do love looking ahead and anticipating my top reads each season, so I’m posting my list today. Because I’m a little OCD (and really, aren’t we all?), my definition of “fall” is books that will be released in the months of September, October and November. It’s always hard to narrow these lists down to ten, and this time of year it’s especially hard, but I did my best:-) So here they are, in order of release date (click on the links to see the Goodreads descriptions):

The Last Days of Jack Sparks by Jason Arnopp. Release date: 9/13. I just got a surprise review copy of this book, and it’s now high on my list of anticipated reads this month!

Dead Souls by J. Lincoln Fenn. Release date: 9/20. Not technically a review book, but I did pick up an ARC at Comic Con, and I’m going to squeeze it in to my already over-booked September. Wish me luck!

Like a River Glorious by Rae Carson. Release date: 9/27. I’m very excited for this second book in Carson’s The Gold Seer Trilogy!

The Rise of Io by Wesley Chu. Release date: 10/4. Chu’s Tao series, if you haven’t read it, is one of my very favorite SF series, and this book is a “spin-off” set in the same world.

The Motion of Puppets by Keith Donohue. Release date: 10/4. I loved Donohue’s The Boy Who Drew Monsters, and I’m looking forward to his latest, which sounds extremely odd and magical.

The Apartment by S.L. Grey. Release date: 10/4. I have yet to read anything by Sarah Lotz (which is a crime), so I’m happy to have a review copy of her next book written under a pen name (a collaboration with Louis Greenberg).

Gemina (The Illuminae Files #2) by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff. Release date: 10/18. I’m super excited to have snagged an ARC at Comic Con, because this series is addicting and hard to put down!

Faller by Will McIntosh. Release date: 10/25. I loved McIntosh’s YA book Burning Midnight, and I’m looking forward to his latest adult SF story.

Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Release date: 10/25. I’ve heard awesome things about this author, and I can’t wait to read her take on the vampire story.

Congress of Secrets by Stephanie Burgis. Release date: 11/1. Burgis wrote Masks and Shadows, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and this book is set in a different location, but as I understand it, there are a couple of crossover characters from her last book.

Are you planning on reading any of these books? Let me know:-D

  1. Like a River Glorious! I adored Walk On Earth A Stranger so much that pre-ordering the sequel was a no-brainer. 🙂 Besides that one, I’m also looking forward to Leigh Bardugo’s Crooked Kingdom, Ryan Graudin’s Blood For Blood, and Traci Chee’s The Reader. And I definitely want to read your thoughts on Congress of Secrets once you’ve had a chance to read it!

  2. I really must remember to grab copies of Certain Dark Things and The Apartment when they come out. There is no way I can narrow down my fall reads to 10 so I’ll have to refine that topic if I plan on doing that one. I mean seriously, my monthly TBRs are longer than 10. I don’t know why but I kept thinking the Jack Sparks book was out and I’d already bought it – like months ago. Maybe I preordeded it for my Kindle. Now I’ll have to check.
