Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine, and is a fun way to share upcoming books that you’re excited about with other bloggers and readers.
It’s been several years since I’ve read The Boy Who Drew Monsters, which I loved, and so I was super excited to see that Donohue has a new book coming out very soon:

In the Old City of Québec, Kay Harper falls in love with a puppet in the window of the Quatre Mains, a toy shop that is never open. She is spending her summer working as an acrobat with the cirque while her husband, Theo, is translating a biography of the pioneering photographer Eadweard Muybridge. Late one night, Kay fears someone is following her home. Surprised to see that the lights of the toy shop are on and the door is open, she takes shelter inside.
The next morning Theo wakes up to discover his wife is missing. Under police suspicion and frantic at her disappearance, he obsessively searches the streets of the Old City. Meanwhile, Kay has been transformed into a puppet, and is now a prisoner of the back room of the Quatre Mains, trapped with an odd assemblage of puppets from all over the world who can only come alive between the hours of midnight and dawn. The only way she can return to the human world is if Theo can find her and recognize her in her new form. So begins a dual odyssey: of a husband determined to find his wife, and of a woman trapped in a magical world where her life is not her own.
The Motion of Puppets by Keith Donohue releases in October 2016 from Picador. This story sounds strange and magical, and I really can’t believe it hasn’t crossed my path before now! It’s barely a month away from the release date, so I guess I won’t have long to wait:-)

Strange and magical indeed. Love the concept here, and the mythological parallels. Could be an interesting read.
I’m a sucker for Orpheus retellings so I can’t wait!
I saw this for the first time last week and thought it was unusual sounding as well. I haven’t read his other book yet but hope to some day. I’m not sure I’m loving this cover, but it may grow on me the more I see it. Glad you don’t have to wait long.

Another one I hadn’t heard of until now! It sounds like an really interesting take on the Orpheus and Eurydice myth. I’m going to have to check it out when it’s released.

I love novels based on mythology and I hope this one is good:-)
I’ve never read the author, but when I saw the book it caught my interest. Something made me worry that it might be a little “weird” though, but I don’t remember why! Maybe it was a blurb I saw comparing the book to another one I typically associate with weird 😀
