What’s On My Plate – June 2016

On My Plate

Welcome to What’s On My Plate, my monthly post where I attempt to organize my reading and blogging life:-) Another month has flown by and we’re nearly half way through the year already! How can that be? This month I’ve got an overwhelming amount of review books on tap, and so this post is more of a “menu” of what I’ll be choosing to read this month, rather than an absolute “here’s what I’ll be blogging about.” Plus I still have some May review books I’m going to try to catch up on. Some of these are definite reads and some are going to be “if I’m in the mood and have time.” So here we go:

Books for review:

Spells of Blood and Kin by Claire Humphrey. It seems like I’ve had a copy of this book FOREVER. Really excited it’s finally coming up to review.

The Vanishing Throne by Elizabeth May. Ditto this book! I simply adored the first book in the series, The Falconer, and I’m anxious to read more about this fantastic heroine:-)

This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab. This is a start to her new YA series, and I’m hoping it lives up to her usual standards.

The Dark Side by Anthony O’Neill. Oooh, sci-fi  noir goodness!

Disappearance at Devil’s Rock by Paul Tremblay, but I’m really excited to check out his latest. I have a copy of A Head Full of Ghosts, but haven’t had time to read it.

A Green and Ancient Light by Frederic S. Durbin. Another Saga title! I’ve been having really good luck with this publisher, and I hope the lucky streak continues with this title as well.

The Suicide Motor Club by Christopher Buehlman. Here’s another author who I’m dying to read, and I’m going to start with his latest. Then hopefully I can go back and catch up with The Lesser Dead.

Peel Back the Skin edited by Anthony Rivera and Sharon Lawson. This cover is creeping me out, but I’m anxious to read the stories, especially since I’m familiar with many of the authors.

Clown Wars: Blood & Aspic by Jeremy Drysdale and Joseph D’Lacey. Joseph approached me about this book, and even though it’s self-published, I have read his books before and loved them, so it wasn’t hard to say “yes” to his request.

Dragon Hunters by Marc Turner. I’ve heard great things about this series, and even though this is book two, I’m looking forward to diving in.

Pride’s Spell by Matt Wallace. This is the third novella in Wallace’s Sin du Jour series, one of my favorites, and I’m curious to see if he can keep the momentum going.

Quantum Break: Zero State by Cam Rogers. I’ve heard good things about this book too, and thanks to Tor, I have a review copy waiting on a pile!

Lois Lane: Fallout by Gwenda Bond. The publisher kindly sent me this book, along with book two in the series, so I wanted to get started on it, since I hear these books are really good:-)

Psychopomp and Circumstance by Adrean Messmer.  Love the title, love the cover! I also love that this is under 200 pages and I’ll be able to easily squeeze it into my ridiculous schedule!

Giveaways and Interviews:

I have several giveaways going on this month, including: A review and giveaway of a signed copy of Burning by Danielle Rollins, a giveaway of the paperback copy of Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine, in preparation for the release of book two (!!), my monthly Book Review Giveaway, and I’m also doing a giveaway hop this month, the Debut Author Hop. I hope to finally post an interview with Philip Reeve, author of my favorite book so far this year, Railhead. Not quite sure what the dates will be for these giveaways, so your best bet not to miss anything is to subscribe to this blog:-)

And you know, things may pop up unexpectedly, like they always seem to do:-) Let me know if you plan to read any of the books on my list!

  1. I can’t wait to dive in to The Vanishing Throne as well! I hope you like Fallout because I really enjoyed it and I think the second one was even better. 🙂 You have a lot of great sounding books to read this month, enjoy!

  2. Woo that is quite a bit on your plate! The Suicide Motor Club looks really interesting, I kind of love that cover.

I just randomly got Pride’s Spell. I haven’t read the other two books in that series though, do you think the books in that series work as stand-alones or should they be read in order?

I don’t think you have to read them in order necessarily, but the first book really introduces the characters and why they joined Sin du Jour, so maybe I would recommend starting from the beginning. Although each is a contained story.

Psychopomp looks good, right? I can’t remember but I think it’s self published, which I rarely read these days. And yes, everyone tells me I must read Dragon Hunters ASAP:-)

  3. Both “Quantum Break” and “The Suicide Motor Club” keep popping up in various reviews lately, so I’ve become quite curious about them, so I’m looking forward to your reviews. And congratulations for such a *rich* plate! 🙂
