Waiting on Wednesday [199] – CROSSROADS OF CANOPY by Thoraiya Dyer

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine, and is a fun way to share upcoming books that you’re excited about with other bloggers and readers.

There’s something about stories that take place high in the sky that I just love, and this book looks like it will work perfectly for me!

Crossroads of CanopyAt the highest level of a giant forest, thirteen kingdoms fit seamlessly together to form the great city of Canopy. Thirteen goddesses and gods rule this realm and are continuously reincarnated into human bodies. Canopy’s position in the sun, however, is not without its dark side. The nation’s opulence comes from the labor of slaves, and below its fruitful boughs are two other realms: Understorey and Floor, whose deprived citizens yearn for Canopy’s splendor.

Unar, a determined but destitute young woman, escapes her parents’ plot to sell her into slavery by being selected to serve in the Garden under the goddess Audblayin, ruler of growth and fertility. As a Gardener, she yearns to become Audblayin’s next Bodyguard while also growing sympathetic towards Canopy’s slaves.

When Audblayin dies, Unar sees her opportunity for glory – at the risk of descending into the unknown dangers of Understorey to look for a newborn god. In its depths, she discovers new forms of magic, lost family connections, and murmurs of a revolution that could cost Unar her chance…or grant it by destroying the home she loves.

Crossroads of Canopy (Titan’s Forest #1) by Thoraiya Dyer releases in January 2017 from Tor Books. I love the idea of different levels in the trees. Even though January feels very far away, it’s really not!

Let me know what you’re waiting on this week:-D

  1. You’re right about January not being so far away. I can’t believe it’s June already. The trees bring about a new element which I haven’t seen a lot in books so I hope you really enjoy it. I see you are planning on reading “The Star-Touched Queen” next – I have it on reserve at the library when it gets returned. Hope it’s as good as I hear.

I didn’t even see that blurb until you mentioned it! High praise, and it makes me want to read it even more:-)

Great pick! I stumbled across Crossroads of Canopy a few weeks ago and added it straight to my wishlist. Between the fantastic sounding plot and the rather gorgeous cover I can’t wait to read it!!!

  3. I’m liking this one too! It would be great to explore and see this this world. I’m picturing it kind of like Tarzan, the animated movie, where he surfing and grinding on interweaving vines between the trees. XD

  4. Ooh, yes, this book caught my eye! It might have been last week that I updated the Goodreads page for this book last week with the description, and I remember being intrigued by the description of a giant city in the treetops!

  5. January really isn’t very far. I still can’t believe it’s June already and the kids are almost out of school. Wasn’t it just Christmas? lol This sounds fantastic though! Tor puts out some fantastic books these days.
