What’s On My Plate – November 2015

On My Plate

What’s On My Plate is my monthly post where I outline all my plans for the coming month. It’s a way to try to keep myself on track with review books, and it gives me a snapshot of upcoming books to look forward to. I can hardly believe the year is nearly over! And things here on the blog don’t seem to be slowing down at all. Some of that is because I’ll be participating for the second year in Sci-Fi Month. Add to that a huge list of review books that I’m catching up on, a blog tour, and some cool giveaways, and you have an action-packed month:-) Check out what you can expect here in the next thirty days:

Sci-Fi Month 2015:

Sci fi banner 2015

Once again, I’m participating in Sci-Fi Month, hosted by Rinn Reads and Over the Effing Rainbow, two lovely UK blogs that I’ve been following for a while. If you love Sci-Fi, then you shouldn’t miss this event! And if you’re a blogger, you can join in the fun any time you want during the month, simply click one of those links for more information. Check out my kick-off post tomorrow, where I’ll be outlining my (sort of) plan for the month:-D

Books for Review:

Review books are still going strong, and I’m using November and December to catch up on some that I just couldn’t get to earlier in the year. Next month expect almost the entire list to be “catch up” books.

The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness. I’ve been reading rave reviews for this, and I’m determined to get to it this month!

Owl and the City of Angels by Kristi Charish. I’ve been looking forward to this sequel since I read Owl and the Japanese Circus.

Rising Tide by Rajan Khanna. ANOTHER sequel that looks awesome!

Walk on Earth a Stranger by Rae Carson. This book is beloved by many bloggers, and I just can’t miss out, no matter how busy my review schedule is:-)

The Book Collector by Alice Thompson. This short book from one of my favorite UK small publishers, Salt Publishing, looks weird and wonderful!

Nebula Awards Showcase 2015, edited by Greg Bear. This gathering of fiction and non fiction, which is voted on by the members of the SFWA (Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America) looks like fun.

Weighing Shadows by Lisa Goldstein. A time-travel story from an award-winning author.

Tor.com Novellas:

I’m thrilled to finally be on the list to review the Tor.com novellas, and I’ve already received a bunch! I know this is a CRAZY month, but I’d love to fit in one or two:

Binti by Nnedi Okorafor. I really enjoyed Lagoon, a novel I read earlier in the year, and I’ve heard great things about this novella.

Of Sorrow and Such by Angela Slatter. Witches! I love this beautiful cover, and I love stories about witches.

…and at The Speculative Herald:

Look for my reviews of The Girl with Ghost Eyes by H.M. Boroson and Six-Gun Snow White by Catherynne M. Valente over at The Speculative Herald, along with a bunch of other fantastic reviews by my fellow bloggers!

Giveaways:

Check back on the 15th for my monthly Book Review Giveaway, where one international winner will get to pick one of the books I reviewed in October.

Tomorrow’s Sci-Fi Month kick-off post has some science fiction related giveaways that will be happening here, so don’t forget to come back to find out what you can win!

AND I may have some surprise giveaways! I’ve been getting lots of “doubles” from publishers, and I’m trying to think of a unique way to share the love.

So, yes, this month is OUT OF CONTROL. Somebody help! Let me know what you’re up to this month:-D

  1. I’m reading The Rest of Us Just Live Here right now and I’m really enjoying it so far. The Girl with Ghost Eyes and Six Gun Snow White sound interesting. I’ll be looking for your reviews!

OMG I just finished The Girl With Ghost Eyes and all I can say is WOW. My review will be up later this week!

  2. This month I’m doing NaNoWriMo (I know, I am insane!) so you’ll probably see my reading slow down 🙂 There are a lot of books on this list I want to read too. I have to catch up with Owl and Rising Tide etc, but I might have to do that in December. I’m so excited to see Walk on Earth a Stranger on your list though, I can’t wait to see what you think! And so pumped for SciFiMonth, this is going to be a great November.

Wow you are going to be busy! Working full time, it’s nearly impossible to do NaNo, at least when you’re trying to blog as well. Good luck!

  3. I’m playing catch up for the rest of the year too! The Rest of Us Just Live Here is also one of those I just didn’t make it around to. That’s so awesome about the Tor.com novellas! They have the most gorgeous covers. Six-Gun Snow White is coming up soon on my reading list. Hope you enjoyed it!
