Spooktacular Hop

Welcome to my stop on the Spooktacular Giveaway Hop 2015, hosted by I Am a Reader, Not a Writer. Over 200 blogs are participating this year, so check out all the links below and try your luck at some other blogs! For my stop, I’ve chosen three books that are at the top of my “must read horror” list, books I haven’t read yet but can’t wait for. One international winner will get to select one of these three books, so check them out! (Please make sure the Book Depository ships to your country before you enter)

A head Full of GhostsThe lives of the Barretts, a normal suburban New England family, are torn apart when fourteen-year-old Marjorie begins to display signs of acute schizophrenia.

To her parents’ despair, the doctors are unable to stop Marjorie’s descent into madness. As their stable home devolves into a house of horrors, they reluctantly turn to a local Catholic priest for help. Father Wanderly suggests an exorcism; he believes the vulnerable teenager is the victim of demonic possession. He also contacts a production company that is eager to document the Barretts’ plight. With John, Marjorie’s father, out of work for more than a year and the medical bills looming, the family agrees to be filmed, and soon find themselves the unwitting stars of The Possession, a hit reality television show. When events in the Barrett household explode in tragedy, the show and the shocking incidents it captures become the stuff of urban legend.

Fifteen years later, a bestselling writer interviews Marjorie’s younger sister, Merry. As she recalls those long ago events that took place when she was just eight years old, long-buried secrets and painful memories that clash with what was broadcast on television begin to surface–and a mind-bending tale of psychological horror is unleashed, raising vexing questions about memory and reality, science and religion, and the very nature of evil.

Carter & LovecraftThe start of a thrilling supernatural series that brings the H.P. Lovecraft mythos into the twenty-first century, optioned by Warner Bros TV.

Daniel Carter used to be a homicide detective, but his last case-the hunt for a serial killer-went wrong in strange ways and soured the job for him. Now he’s a private investigator trying to live a quiet life. Strangeness, however, has not finished with him. First he inherits a bookstore in Providence from someone he’s never heard of, along with an indignant bookseller who doesn’t want a new boss. She’s Emily Lovecraft, the last known descendant of H.P. Lovecraft, the writer from Providence who told tales of the Great Old Ones and the Elder Gods, creatures and entities beyond the understanding of man. Then people start dying in impossible ways, and while Carter doesn’t want to be involved, he’s beginning to suspect that someone else wants him to be. As he reluctantly investigates, he discovers that Lovecraft’s tales were more than just fiction, and he must accept another unexpected, and far more unwanted inheritance.

  8. I actually don’t celebrate Halloween, but I do enjoy getting in the creepy mood by doing creepy nail art and also reading ghost books. I just finished a ghost read yesterday afternoon, come to think of it. I would love to win the Stephen King book!

Love the Fall harvest (had blueberries, a Fuju persimmon and cherry tomatoes from our organic garden today), and seeing the trick-or-treater’s costumes!

There are so many things I love about Halloween and decorating is right on top. I also loved getting my kids dressed up and serving hot spiced apple cider after trick or treating. Plus add in the fall colors. Can do without the cold nowadays but it’s still my favorite holiday of the year. Thanks for the chance.
