Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where every week we’re given a different Top Ten list to come up with. Now I have to admit, meeting authors is very difficult for me. And the more I love an author, the harder it is. What if I say the wrong thing? What if I come across as an idiot? As an introvert, meeting new people is probably at the very bottom of the list of things I enjoy. BUT I would like to meet all these authors:
1. Stephen King
King is probably the one author on this list that I’ll NEVER meet, simply because he’s so famous, he’s hard to get near. But my life would not be the same if I hadn’t picked up The Shining one day in high school and been immediately hooked. From that point on I read every King book that came out. 2. Chuck Wendig
Chuck has become one of my go-to authors since I started blogging, and one of his books (The Blue Blazes) remains in my top ten books of all time. From reading his blog I know he’s passionate about writing and helping other writers reach their goals. He’s also funny as hell, and I think it would be fun to have a beer with him:-D Check him out on terribleminds.com.
3. Jay Kristoff
Jay lives in Australia, so it’s doubtful I’ll meet him, unless he happens to visit California some day. From reading his blog and following him on Twitter, I know he’d be an awesome person to hang out with! Visit Jay on his blog.
4. John Scalzi
I just read my first Scalzi book this past year (Lock In), and at the same time I started following Scalzi’s blog Whatever. Reading his new posts is one of the highlights of my day, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. I love that he talks about his pets and his family just as often as he talks about writing. He’s one author that wouldn’t be that hard to meet, since he travels extensively. Check out his blog Whatever.
5. Alice Hoffman
I’ve been reading Alice Hoffman for years, and I think her books just keep getting better and better. If you have been reading this blog for a while, you’ll know what a big fan I am. I’d love to be able to tell her in person how rich she’s made my reading life over the years. Find out more on her website.
6. Lauren Beukes
After reading Broken Monsters, Lauren Beukes quickly rose to the top of my favorite author list. She lives in South Africa, and certainly one of the reasons I’d love to meet her would be to listen to her talk! (because who doesn’t love a South African accent??) Here’s her blog.
7. Daryl Gregory
I’ve only recently discovered Daryl Gregory, and I’m so glad I have, because judging from the two books of his I’ve already read, this guy can write anything. I’m sure he’d be just as fascinating in person as he is on the page. Here’s his blog.
8. Wesley Chu
Wesley is another author I was introduced to via Angry Robot, and I loved his Tao books immensely! His next book will be published by Tor Books, and I can’t wait to read it! Visit Wesley on his blog.
9. Marcus Sedgwick
Now here’s an author that will make you think. His ideas are not always comfortable, but they are unique. I think he’d be a fascinating person to talk to, and I do hope I get the chance to meet him some day. Check out his website.
10. Victoria Schwab
And last but certainly not least, an author I’ve come to adore. I know from watching her YouTube videos that Victoria loves to travel and she loves to write. She’s a very hard-working author with boundless imagination, and her books show that. I’m sure meeting her in person would be delightful! In adult bookland, she goes by V.E. Schwab. Not sure it counts as meeting him, but I was in audience for a Stephen King chat with David Cronenberg back when Duma Key was released, which was very cool. Clive Barker would be the one author I’d give anything to have dinner with.
Very cool about being in the SK audience. I think for him, that definitely counts as a “meet.” And I was lucky enough to meet Clive Barker at a book signing here in LA many years ago, I’d say in the late 80s early 90s, and even then I waited three hours in line. He was SO nice:-D
Not familiar with these authors but I hope you meet them one day. 🙂

Have you read Joe Hill? I can’t remember. I think he’d be on my list, maybe a father/son meet could count as one spot and I could meet both Stephen King and Joe Hill! I’d also have a good number of the ones that you listed! 🙂

Oh, SK is at the very top of my list as well! I would absolutely adore to just be able to tell him that I’ve loved his books since I was 10 and how much his stories have shaped me as a reader 🙂
Neil Gaiman comes in at a close second – I just adore him and everything he touches (Sandman, Dr. Who). Plus I think he seems so super nice and sweet 🙂

I’m loving the new blog look, Tammy! And omg I get so nervous meeting authors too. I already have to start psyching myself up for SDCC 🙂 Hope you do get to meet some of the authors on your list someday!

I have a complicated relationship with Stephen King’s books but I would still find it very interesting to meet him. He’s so incredibly prolific and his imagination must be boundless – I’d like to know his secrets!

There are lots of authors on this list that I would love to meet. Stephen King didn’t even come to my mind because he’s so huge that I wouldn’t even know where he would make appearances, but hells yeah I would love to meet him!

I’m looking forward to meeting Chuck Wendig and Wesley Chu in a couple weeks at PhxCC or (more likely) at Kevin Hearne’s big sci-fi signing the night before. I missed John Scalzi last year, and when I posted something on FB about how he was the only person I regretted missing, he posted “Well I hope this makes up for it!” on my wall.
