Usually I highlight new books when they arrive on my doorstep, but last night I was thinking, why not share the books I’ve pre-ordered in the last couple of weeks? To be honest, I don’t do that much these days. With all the review copies I need to keep up with, I try to keep my purchases to a minimum (although I still buy more books than the average human person!) But when it rains, it pours, and these three books came to my attention and I knew I just HAD to have them. I’ve included purchase links if you’re interested too (and just to be clear, I don’t do affiliate links, I’m simply providing them to help out the authors/publishers, and because I’m so flipping excited to read these books!)
Rolling in the Deep by Mira Grant. Published by Subterranean Press, releases April 7th. I’m on the Subterranean Press mailing list, and boy do they tempt me every week or so with their wonderful books! If you don’t know who they are, they have been publishing signed and limited editions of genre fiction for years. And when I say “limited editions,” I mean gorgeous books, often with original artwork, heavy paper stock, and other artistic details. Rarely can I afford their limited editions (often they are hundreds of dollars), but they usually do beautiful trade hardcovers as well, and this is one of them. Most of you will recognize the author of this novella (only 128 pages), but did you know she has written a mermaid story? You can purchase it from Subterranean’s website here, however, to save a little money, I pre-ordered mine from Barnes & Noble.
The Border by Robert McCammon. Published by Subterranean Press, releases in May. Robert McCammon is one of my very favorite horror/fantasy writers, although I haven’t read anything new from him since I started blogging. But trust, me, he’s one of the great ones. This new book is said to hearken back to some of his earlier books like Swan Song and Stinger, both books I devoured years ago. This story sounds more science fiction than fantasy, since it’s about aliens, but I just know it’s going to be good! The trade edition is still available for purchase from the publisher, although you can probably buy it from Amazon or Barnes & Noble as well.
Vermilion by Molly Tanzer. I just found this book through another blogger, and immediately rushed to small publisher Word Horde‘s website to order my own copy. I mean, how can you resist this amazing cover? Plus, it’s a steampunk western! Did you hear that? STEAMPUNK WESTERN. With a kick-ass cross-dressing protagonist! I don’t know much about this publisher, other that the fact that they are publishing THIS BOOK, which makes me very happy. Vermilion can only be pre-ordered from the publisher at the moment, and according to their website, it will only be available through independent booksellers. How cool is that? Bonus: order from Word Horde’s website before the pub date, and you’ll get a signed copy, for only seventeen bucks!

I do actually pre order books, though lately I haven’t been doing it too much. I know it’s a big help the authors, but I tend to try and mull over my book purchase a bit of late due to some shelving limitations as well as funding limitations 🙂

Mira Grant’s novella almost slipped right by me and Seanan is one of my favorite authors! Thanks for the heads up. The hardcover is $30 on Amazon, but it’s so worth it. I have all her books, I wouldn’t want to miss one.

Nice finds! I don’t do much buying/preordering these days either unless it’s an ebook deal. Oh, and it’s rewards month at Audible so I guess I’ll also buy a bunch of audiobooks too. But it’s like, if I don’t see it physically, it doesn’t remind me that there’s a lot more books on my to-read list I really should get to first, ha!

The more I see Vermillion floating around on the internet, the more intrigued I become! Big Seanan McGuire/Mira Grant fan, so I may have to order a copy of Rolling in the Deep for my library. Sneaky way to get my hands on a copy without dishing out the moolah myself! 😉

The cover for Rolling in the Deep is totally awesome. I love it and I’m going to head straight over to check it out. The other two also look cool. The Vermillion cover has a terminator, eye thing, going on! Plus steampunk western – oh yes!

I pre-order very rarely. The one time I did recently, I won one of the books, and so when I cancelled it from my Amazon order (before I redid my Prime membership), they charged me shipping because the order went under 35 and I ended up having to cancel the whole thing because shipping was the same cost as the book! So frustrating.
Subterranean Press sounds super cool, and Rolling in the Deep looks *good*.

That Mira Grant is beyond crazy looking. Will definitely be adding that to my wishlist! That new Robert McCammon sounds great. I have yet to read anything of his but I own a couple of them… someday. 🙂
