Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine, and is a fun way to highlight upcoming books that you’re excited about with other bloggers and readers. I just had to feature an Angry Robot book this week, since AR is finally back on track with a whole new list of upcoming releases! Here’s one I’m SUPER excited about, having absolutely loved the first book in the series, The Bullet-Catcher’s Daughter:
Unseemly Science (The Fall of the Gas-Lit Empire #2) by Rod Duncan. Releases in May 2015 from Angry Robot Books. I was surprised and delighted when I read the first book, so if you haven’t started the series, and you love awesome female characters and a fast-moving plot, you really should catch up before May. Here’s the description from Goodreads:
In the divided land of England, Elizabeth Barnabus has been living a double life – as both herself and as her brother, the private detective. Witnessing the hanging of Alice Carter, the false duchess, Elizabeth resolves to throw the Bullet Catcher’s Handbook into the fire, and forget her past. If only it were that easy!
There is a new charitable organisation in town, run by some highly respectable women. But something doesn’t feel right to Elizabeth. Perhaps it is time for her fictional brother to come out of retirement for one last case…? Her unstoppable curiosity leads her to a dark world of body-snatching, unseemly experimentation, politics and scandal. Never was it harder for a woman in a man’s world…
Have you started this series yet? Let me know what you’re waiting on:-D
I must say I adored The Bullet-Catcher’s Daughter- it ended up being one of my favorite books of 2014. It’s kind of nice to have authors who publish their books at a decent rate- some authors seem to make me wait so long I forget about reading their books in the first place!

Oh good, another fan! Yes, I’m glad the wait for this one isn’t too far away:-D
Great pick! Can’t wait to get my hands on this and see what happens next to Elizabeth and I love the cover, goes with Bullet Catcher perfectly!

I think I liked the first cover better, but they do go nicely together!
Hmm. Didn’t ever get around to Bullet Catcher. What is one more series to shotgun in one shot, right?
I think you’d like this one, Nathan. It’s not like you have a huge READING PILE or anything, ha ha!
Hmm, another series I missed out on the first time around . . . I may need to try and get caught up before May. Nice pick!

It’s a great series, and the best part is the author is male, and he writes a kick ass female voice. Amazing!
Awesome pick, I’m looking forward to this one too. Bullet Catcher’s Daughter was probably one of my favorite Angry Robot books to come out last fall. BTW I’m not always keen on AR’s covers, but they’ve really got a winner here. Whoever is doing this series’ covers is fantastic!

Thanks for all the kind comments. You mentioned the cover designer. His name is Will Staehle. He wrote a short article about his design process for The Bullet Catcher’s Daughter cover, which you can find here: http://www.tor.com/blogs/2014/05/will-staehles-cover-art-for-the-bullet-catchers-daughter
Awesome, thanks Rod! And I certainly appreciate that link:-D
