Over-Booked (9) – A Book Haul Post

Over booked banner

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my recent book acquisitions with you! I’m happy to be linking up with Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post. It’s been a month since I did a book haul post, which is a good thing, because it means I haven’t been requesting much. But I do have some purchases this time, books I really want to own and at some point, read. I also received my second Blogging for Books review copy and a couple of other review books as well! Quite a mixed bag, I would call this bunch:

overbooked 9-5Purchased:

Landline by Rainbow Rowell. I really want to read this, especially since I’m married. I think you really have to be married to enjoy it, at least that’s what I’ve heard. Not the sort of book I would probably review here, but still.

We Are Not Ourselves by Matthew Thomas. This is gearing up to be BIG. It’s got all sorts of rave reviews and even though I’ve heard it described as a “hard” book to read—subject matter-wise, at least—I’m pretty sure I’ll love it once I find time to read it.

Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki by Haruki Murakami. Seriously, I have no idea what this is about. But when I saw it sitting on the shelf at Barnes & Noble, I couldn’t help but pick it up. It’s a gorgeously designed book (you can’t tell from this photo), and I wasn’t at all surprised when I discovered that Chip Kidd did the book design. (If you love graphic design at all, and you don’t know who Chip Kidd is, you really need to go Google him right now!) If you see this in the store, I dare you not to pick it up and take off the dust jacket!

For Review:

City of Stairs by Robert Jackson Bennett. I received this from Blogging for Books, and I’m unbelievably excited to read it. I was thrilled when it popped up to request (because honestly, the selection at Blogging for Books is not that great if you mostly read science fiction and fantasy). Many of my favorite bloggers adored this book, so I can’t wait to dive in! Thank you Blogging for Books!

Premonitions by Jamie Schultz. Jamie contacted me himself and asked if I’d like a review copy. Let’s see: black-market magical drugs, crime lords, a heist: yep, I think this is going to be good! Big thanks to Jamie Schultz!

For Review, digital:

The Heart Does Not Grow Back

The Heart Does Not Grow Back by Fred Venturini. Right after I decided to feature this as a Waiting on Wednesday, I found it on NetGalley. I’m super excited to read this superhero story (that doesn’t appear to be a superhero story on the outside!) Thank you Picador!

That’s it for me! Let me know if you got any goodies this week:-)

  1. Ooh, I hadn’t heard of Blogging For Books before, and I’ve been really wanting City of Stairs. Just went and checked it out and got it. Thanks for mentioning them! Hope you enjoy the books. I’m curious about The Heart Does Not Grow Back, too.

    My StS.

  2. I’ve heard a lot of good things about City of Stairs but I was hesitant to request it from Netgalley. Maybe, I should still wait for more reviews to come in before I pick it up.

And you’ve got Landline. I’m still staying away from Rowell’s books because I was greatly disappointed by her Fangirl. 😀

    Charlotte @ Thoughts and Pens.

  3. All those books look wonderful. I personally can’t wait to read Landline. I also did have to google Chip Kidd. I do happen to love graphic design and I’ve never heard of him til now. So thanks Tammy!

    • Chip Kidd is amazing. The reason I even heard about him was that he started out by designing book covers, which he still does. He’s also written a couple of books (fiction) and he continues to really push the envelope with book design.

  4. Jamie Schultz contacted me too and I said yes yes yes a million times yes to the request to review Premonitions. It’s been on my radar forever and I’m planning to get to it next week – so excited to read a heist book!

I also went a bit nuts on NetGalley in the last couple weeks (well, nuts for me)…after I was accepted for The Heart Does Not Grow Back, I went and requested a couple more. One of them was Shutter which btw I found out from you too. Look what you started! 😛

    • Jamie sure has been busy:-) Sorry I FORCED you to request Shutter, ha ha! I think that one is way out there, however, maybe next February? So you don’t necessarily have to read it right away. Happy to help grow your pile any time!

  5. City of Stairs! Everybody and their granny has been LOVING this book – so much so that I actually ordered a copy for the library I work at despite how depressing our SFF section is. Hopefully you love it! I have yet to read a Rainbow Rowell book but I’ve heard lots of great things. Sometimes it’s nice to take a little breather from the SFF and horror with a nice contemporary. 🙂

    • I do need a break every now and then, and honestly, I used to read a lot of contemporary literature before I started blogging, so I kind of miss it. I hope to start City of Stairs soon!

  6. I think I’m going to start City of Stairs next. And also, thanks to your WoW, I got a digital copy of The Heart Does Not Grow Back as well. You sold me on it! 🙂 I also got a copy of The Bone Clocks. Pretty excited to check that one out as well.

What i do not understood is actually how you are no longer actually much more neatly-favored than you might be now. You are very intelligent. You understand thus considerably in the case of this topic, made me individually believe it from so many various angles. Its like men and women are not involved until it’s one thing to accomplish with Lady gaga! Your own stuffs nice. Always take care of it up!
