Over-Booked (3) – A Book Haul Post

Over booked banner copy

Welcome to Over-Booked, my version of the ever popular book haul post, where I will be linking up with Stacking the Shelves at Tynga’s Reviews as well as The Sunday Post at The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Alas, no huge, teetering pile of ARCs from BEA for this blogger (and yes, I’ll admit to feeling jealous of all the ginormous book hauls everyone seems to be posting this week), but I did spend my Mother’s Day Barnes & Noble gift card last week, and I picked up a few digital ARCs as well. Here’s my book haul:

Purchased:

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige. Because, I just need a copy of this and want to read it sooo bad.

The Three by Sarah Lotz. When book bloggers I really trust say that this is one of their favorite books of the year so far, I listen.

Bird Box by Josh Malerman. This book has some amazing reviews and sounds really scary. I can’t wait to read it.

The Snake Charm by Laura Lam. I just loved Lam’s Pantomime and Shadowplay, and this is a short story set in the same world. Lam has self-published this story, and plans on writing more in the same vein, and I love that she’s named her publishing company “Penglass Publishing.” (If you’ve read her books you’ll understand the reference!)

For Review:

Best British Horror 2014 edited by Johnny Mains. This anthology from one of my favorite small British publishers, Salt Publishing, is bound to be good. Everything I’ve read of theirs is top-notch.

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray. I adore this cover, and the story sounds pretty good as well.

Winterspell by Claire Legrand. This is a retelling of The Nutcracker, and it sounds sooo good.

That’s my haul this week! What did you get?

  1. I’m curious about The Three too! Winterspell is a Nutcracker retelling? Sounds awesome. Happy reading & have a great weekend!

  2. I really hope you’ll like The Three. It seems people either loved it or hated it, I guess it really depends on whether or not you like the structure and style 🙂 And gah, I would never be able to read that Horror anthology, one look at the cover and it would end up through my window and onto my lawn ;-P

  3. Great haul! I have quite a few on my ‘read soon’ pile but I’m especially looking forward to The Three and Winterspell. I read Bird Box a couple of weeks ago and liked it, very odd but good! The Best British Horror anthology looks good, might have to add that one to the wishlist.

Enjoy your new books and happy reading 🙂

  4. I got…nothing. For almost a month. But that is good, cleared a few arcs and hit the library for a couple too!

Still interested in Dorothy must die though, I must say.

  5. I love every single one of these. We have similar taste. Thanks a bunch for sharing as I’ve now got some great authors to follow and books to nab! I visited my favorite local used book store this weekend and picked up a few I’ll be posting about tomorrow. Have a wonderful weekend.

    • I think it’s only available for Amazon Kindle at the moment (it’s an ebook) but she’s working on getting it ready for other platforms.
