Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, and is a great way to showcase upcoming books we’re excited about. This cover was just revealed by Mr. Wendig himself, and I couldn’t be more excited to continue the story of Cael and Gwennie. Look how pretty!
Blightborn (The Heartland Trilogy #2) by Chuck Wendig. Release date: July 29 2014 (Skyscape). Under the Empyrean Sky was one of my top ten YA books of 2013, so you can imagine how excited I am to read this one. This time we get to see what’s going on in the floating cities, which were only background elements in the first book. (Although I sure had fun down there in the corn!) Gorgeous cover, right? Here’s the synopsis (from Amazon):
Cael McAvoy is on the run. He’s heading toward the Empyrean to rescue his sister, Merelda, and to find Gwennie before she’s lost to Cael forever. With his pals, Lane and Rigo, Cael journeys across the Heartland to catch a ride into the sky. But with Boyland and others after them, Cael and his friends won’t make it through unchanged.
Gwennie’s living the life of a Lottery winner, but it’s not what she expected. Separated from her family, Gwennie makes a bold move—one that catches the attention of the Empyrean and changes the course of an Empyrean man’s life.
The crew from Boxelder aren’t the only folks willing to sacrifice everything to see the Empyrean fall. The question is: Can the others be trusted?
They’d all better hurry. Because the Empyrean has plans that could ensure that the Heartland never fights back again.
Chuck Wendig’s riveting sequel to Under the Empyrean Sky plunges readers into an unsettling world of inequality and destruction, and fleshes out a cast of ragtag characters all fighting for survival and, ultimately, change.
Under the Empyrean Sky is now available for only $3.99 on Kindle, so this is a great opportunity to read it before Blightborn comes out. So, what are you waiting on this week?
I’ve been looking at “Under the Empyrean Sky” for some time whenever I’m browsing for new Kindle books – the cover is so intriguing, but I could never really find anyone who’d given it a proper review.
Lo and behold, you’re excited about the sequel, so I guess that settles it! 😀
Off to give Amazon my money!
Geez, how many series does this man have out there? I had never really paid attention to him and suddenly seeing his name EVERYWHERE.
I think he has three, one YA and 2 adult. I’m sure he’d be thrilled to know you’re seeing him everywhere! I highly recommend The Blue Blazes if you want to give him a try.
Series…series – I know right! He can write so much so fast! I’ve only read the Miriam Black ones and this YA one. But I own his The Blue Blazes and Double Dead which is a standalone, and I think he has some Dinosaur one..? And a short fiction collection
Read The Blue Blazes! Seriously, it’s amazing.
Yep, like we talked about on Goodreads, this is now on my list too and will probably be a future WoW of mine as well 😀 Thanks for cluing me in to the great title and cover! I was pretty blown away when I saw it!
It is a stunning cover:)
This series has some pretty kick butt covers! I still have it on my to-read list (I think I own it too!), but yeah, it’s still on the list, haha.
Great pick 🙂
Thanks for stopping by, as always!
I haven’t read the first one yet, but I’ve heard so many good things!
My WoW
I’ve never heard of this book, but I think I’ve heard of the author! It looks and sounds kind of interesting – I’ll look for your review when you read this one, Tammy! 🙂
Thanks for visiting my blog!
