Ten Things You Might Not Know About Me

You know me as an avid reader and blogger, but below the surface, well, let’s just say there’s more than meets the eye. I’ve seen these personal top ten posts floating around, and after reading Kimba at the Caffeinated Book Review’s post, I knew I had to post one of my own. Thanks for the idea, Kimba! I suppose these things will either scare you away, or possibly make you like me more:) So here they are, the top ten things you might not know about me:

one

kisses

I can’t drink coffee in the morning unless I have Hershey’s Kisses with Almonds™ to eat along with my coffee. In fact, I check my supply each night before I go to bed, to make sure I’ll have some for the next morning. I’ve been known to jump in the car at night and run to the nearby grocery store to buy a bag, just so I won’t be disappointed in the morning.

two

japanese

My senior year of college I lived in Tokyo for a year. During that time, I traveled to South East Asia and rode the train from Bangkok to Singapore in a train car with chickens, and worked in a Korean bar in Tokyo as a “hostess,” lighting cigarettes and mixing misuwari (whisky & water) for Japanese business men. One night I accidentally set a Japanese mobster’s eyebrow on fire when trying to light his cigarette (the lighter was defective!) I’m not kidding. Most people don’t believe me when I tell this story.

three 2

During that same year in Tokyo, I got several modeling jobs and appeared in a magazine ad for Toyota.

four

no onions

I absolutely HATE onions, and I don’t even allow them in my house. I will buy ONE onion ONCE  a year for either Thanksgiving or Christmas, whichever I’m cooking that year. I buy it for the stuffing, because everyone else in my family loves onions. Traitors!!!

five

band small

I used to play electric guitar and sing in a (garage) band called Too Late For Breakfast. I still have my old Telecaster and now my daughter plays it!

six

choir

I spent my junior high, high school, and college years singing in choirs. I loved it so much, and I miss it to this day! Luckily my daughter loves choir too, so I get to relive it through her:) (By the way, I’m in the front row on the far left.)

seven

turtle

Yep, that’s me! I am an introvert in real life (but not on the internet!) and I hate parties and most social situations. Going to any type of event where I don’t know people stresses me out immensely. I’m much happier in one-on-one situations than I am in a group. BUT I can fool people into thinking I’m socially normal, and many of my family and friends would probably be surprised to learn this about me.

eight

IBR-1113189

I am a morning person and get up at about 5:30 each day, even when I don’t have to. I love how peaceful the house is before everyone else wakes up. I go to bed around 9:00 each night, happily curled up with my two dogs (oh, and the husband).

nine

Buffy

In case you didn’t see the name of this blog, I’m a HUGE Joss Whedon fan! I own every DVD of every season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly and can pretty much list each episode’s name in order by season. I’ve watched each Buffy episode dozens of times and can recite all the best lines.

ten 2

feisty

I am a fanatical animal lover, especially dogs and critters in the wild. I have the annoying habit of exclaiming excitedly every time I see a dog walk by, even if I have to interrupt someone. I will pause when I’m walking to gaze lovingly at squirrels and crows. One of the highlights of my life in recent years was coming home late one night to find two enormous raccoons on my front porch. (Hey, I’m a city girl, so that’s about as exciting as it gets around here!) I even love the rats that come to our orange and lemons trees to eat the fruit! The photo above is me in junior high with a prairie falcon named Feisty. I had the coolest science teacher who rehabilitated desert animals at school and allowed his students to take them home over the weekends to care for them. Can you see the joy in my face?? And I’ll leave you with a photo of my beloved dogs, Ginger and Otis:

So now you know all about me. If you do your own Top Ten post, please let me know!

  1. I just rewatched all the Buffy DVD’s four times in the last few months. I’m resisting the urge to rewatch them yet another time. I love Spike. And onions. 🙂

  2. Awesome post Tammy, I will drink my coffee with anything but must admit Hershey almond kisses are yummy. I love onions,,.in fact an onion and tomato sandwich is one of my favorites 🙂

  3. Haha I like this! It was a good list. I’m pretty much an introvert too, and most people know this because sometimes I really can’t face a social event and cancel. But when I do get there it can be easy to be socially normal for me too. I am also a morning person. 5 am is my time xD But I really should get to bed earlier
Check out my birthday post: http://olivia-savannah.blogspot.nl/2014/01/my-birthday.html?showComment=1391101553157#c5430862222564176183

  4. What a fun post! Now that you’ve mentioned chocolate+almonds, I am craving some too! It’s funny, the little rituals we have. 🙂 How cool that you lived in Tokya for a year. My husband and I really want to go there someday. I had no idea you were so musical either, but that’s awesome!

I’m totally like you, an introvert. I am definitely the girl in the corner, quietly reading or doing something on my phone — avoiding conversation and people, lol. I’m a big animal lover, too! Just like you, I stop and say hello to every animal I see! I just can’t help myself! ^_^

  5. Pabkins

You must have had such an awesome time coming up with all of this!! Seriously you lit his eyebrow on fire! They must have thought you were a total crazy lady. And a Toyota add really! Sweeet. I hate onions also and bell peppers. I won’t eat anything with bell peppers in it. I even ask when I’m eating out “does this have bell peppers in it because they don’t SAY they put them in BUT so many places DOO and then I can TASTE them and it destroys it for me. I’ve sent so many dishes back over the years because of them. It’s their own fault though I say!

    • Ha ha! I hate bell peppers too. I think they’re added to everything to add color to dishes, at least that’s my thought. But does anyone really like them??

      • Pabkins

My husband loves them…I think he’s mental. I don’t know maybe they are added for color cause the flavor and smell is atrocious. Literally when I used to work in the office – I’d go into the lunch room and this one lady would eat them constantly…even RAW. She would sit at the table I was sitting at. I would get up and move. Finally I had to tell her why. She thought I was so strange.

  6. I think these are always fun! Oh gosh I really hate onions myself.. I never ever ever have them in my house, even holidays 🙂
Our friends had a dog named Otis!
The part about the mobster had me giggling 😀

  7. Wow Tammy that is so incredibly fascinating! Your time in Tokyo sounds like a dream come true, I love Japan it’s so much fun. I can see why people wouldn’t believe that mobster story but it sounds scary lol! I am a huge Joss Whedon fan too ^_^ Yay!

  8. Tokyo sounds like a dangerous place! Lol. What a year. 🙂 Joss Whedon is wonderful, I also love his Firefly series. Great list honey. I’m stunned by the 5:30am rise and shine routine though! I am not a morning person….

  9. Aw your puppies are so cute! I am a BIG animal lover as well!! I absolutely love reading these types of posts, and getting to know someone better! I really really do not like going out at all either. I would much rather stay home and read, or just do something other than go out! LOL. If I do go out, I find myself wishing I would’ve just stayed home and read a book instead. Firefly is an awesome show! I never watched it until after my dad and I watched Serenity (our fav movie ever)! We actually named our 68 Camaro Serenity because of our love for it! Great list Tammy! 🙂 I just wrote one myself today, and I didn’t realize how hard it would be until I sat down to do it! Here’s a link if you’re interested: Top Ten things you may not know about me

I loved your list because it gives your readers a good insight into who you are! I think to have happy blog followers you must give a sense of self to your blog. I hope to have a blog one day and write a list of ten things you might know about me. Meanwhile I will continue to be a contented follower.
