Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine, and is a fun way to share upcoming book releases that we’re excited about. Click the banner above to check out more WoW posts, or link up your own! This week I stumbled across an AMAZING book cover that I absolutely fell in love with. That would be great by itself, but then I read the story description and I fell even more in love. Then I realized who the author was and I fell even more in love. (Lots of love going around today, folks.) Here’s the book:
100 Sideways Miles by Andrew Smith. Release date: September 2014 (Simon & Schuster). Andrew Smith is the author of Winger, a book I haven’t had a chance to read yet, but which has been getting stellar reviews. And, he’s the author of Grasshopper Jungle which is coming out next month. Here’s the Goodreads description for 100 Sideways Miles:
Finn Easton sees the world through miles instead of minutes. It’s how he makes sense of the world, and how he tries to convince himself that he’s a real boy and not just a character in his father’s bestselling cult-classic book. Finn has two things going for him: his best friend, the possibly-insane-but-definitely-excellent Cade Hernandez, and Julia Bishop, the first girl he’s ever loved.
Then Julia moves away, and Finn is heartbroken. Feeling restless and trapped in the book, Finn embarks on a road trip with Cade to visit their college of choice in Oklahoma. When an unexpected accident happens and the boys become unlikely heroes, they take an eye-opening detour away from everything they thought they had planned—and learn how to write their own destiny.
If I’m reading this correctly, it’s about a boy who is actually a character in a book. Or I guess it could be about a boy who has some kind of mental condition and he only thinks he’s a character in a book. I don’t care, I’m going to read it either way! Sounds awesome, right? Let me know what you’re waiting on this week!
This book sounds awesome! I’m seeing some Going Bovine themes and God knows I love that book!
Nice! I haven’t seen the cover of this one yet. (Smith always gets the most interesting covers!) This book sounds really creative and I can’t wait to check it out.
Interesting one. I like the horse. Hope you can stop by mine.
Either way, this sounds cool. I’m always hoping for more books based on books. Good pick!

Great pick!
I’m actually finding that cover a bit disturbing. Great title, though.
