Stacking the Shelves (47)

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews, and is a fun way to share our book hauls with each other. This week I got a couple of nice things in the mail and some e-ARCs too. I’m continuing to keep my cool on Edelweiss and NetGalley, and really thinking about what I want to read before I hit the “request” button. Here’s what I have on my shelves this week:

From publishers:

Earth Star by Janet Edwards. Release date: April 15 2014. Big thanks to Pyr for this! I bought the first book in the series, Earth Girl, when it came out, but haven’t had a chance to read it. Now I have an excuse!

Maze by J.M. McDermott. Out now. Thank you Apex! I’m excited to read this. It sounds bizarre, which is perfect for me.

From NetGalley/Author:

High & Dry by Sarah Skilton. This is Skilton’s second book, a stand-alone. I loved her first book Bruised, and I’m thrilled to be able to review this one! Plus she lives near me and I am planning on going to her local book signing in April.

Poison Dance by Livia Blackburne. This novella is out now, and the novel it’s based on, Midnight Thief, comes out in July. Livia was kind enough to offer me a copy of Poison Dance to whet my appetite!

Lockstep by Karl Schroeder. This book comes out in March, and it sounds really good. Space, frozen planets, and people who sleep for thousands of years.

The Book of the Crowman by Joseph D’Lacey. I read the first book in this series, Black Feathers, and really enjoyed it.

Big thanks to Amulet Books, Livia Blackburne, Tor and Angry Robot!

Purchased:

Deeper Into Darkness by Russell James. I reviewed another book by James, and I’m eager to check out his short stories.

Echoes by Therin Knite. I swore I’d never read any more indie books, but I’ve been following Therin’s blog and I wanted to support him, even if I don’t have time at the moment to read his book. It actually sounds like a lot of fun, check out the Goodreads link!

Carousel Tides by Sharon Lee. I purchased this first book in the series, because I have an e-ARC of the second book. I seem to be doing that a lot lately! So I need to catch up before Carousel Sun comes out next month.

The Damsel and the Daggerman by Delilah S. Dawson. I’ve heard amazing things about this author/series, so I thought I’d start with a novella. Although now that I look closer, I think I’m supposed to read Wicked As They Come and Wicked As She Wants first. Is anyone familiar with Dawson? Can I dive into this one first?

Life After Life by Kate Atkinson. Before I was a blogger, Kate Atkinson was one of my very favorite authors. Unfortunately, I haven’t read anything from her in several years. But since this book has been on all sorts of “Best of” lists, I’m determined to fit it in.

So that’s my book haul! I’m happy to report that I still have a $50 Amazon gift card from Christmas that I haven’t used, but I plan to use it up soon. What’s on your shelves? Don’t forget to check out my giveaways going on now! See the top sidebar for details.

  1. You will have to let me know how well the Blud novella works as a standalone. Been wanted to try her for a while, and wouldn’t mind a shorter entry point.

  2. I like how your books complement your new spiffy blog design 🙂

Life After Life is one I’ve been meaning to read too. Looks so good! And I’m also tempted to request High & Dry.

I’m being very stingy with my Amazon gc so far but it’s burning a hole in my pocket!

    Happy reading, Tammy!

  3. I received a copy of Poison Dance from Livia too! Looking forward to what you’ll think of it, it made me even more excited to Midnight Thief. And Lockstep is another one on my reading list, it sounds great.
