Welcome to Stacking the Shelves, where bloggers share their book hauls for the week, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. It’s been a slow couple of weeks for me, both in acquiring new books and blogging. I’ve kind of lost my mojo this month, and I’m not sure why. I started NaNoWriMo and got through the first week, but the stress of keeping up and moving forward with my story made me realize I didn’t have to do it, so I have officially thrown in the towel, this time! I honestly felt so much better after making that decision:) And yet my blogging slump remains…perhaps reading some of these books will cheer me up!
So, here’s what I received this past week:
For review from Publisher:
The Rabbit Back Literature Society by Pasi Ilmari Jääskeläinen. Release date: November 21 2013 (Pushkin Press). I have recently discovered some very small but high quality UK publishers that are putting out some very impressive books. This is what I live for! Yes, I adore reading all the hot titles and keeping up with the trends, but I’m also searching for those undiscovered gems that deserve more attention, especially in the U.S. This book has rave reviews and is being billed by the publisher as “David Lynch does Finland.” This book looks both strange and wonderful, and I’m looking forward to reading it.
Barcelona Shadows by Marc Pastor. Release date: January 16 2014 (Pushkin Press). Here is another Pushkin Press title, a crime story based on a real-life case, and the tag line is “CSI meets Jack the Ripper in Twentieth Century Barcelona.” The publicist I work with, Tabitha, says this book is pretty amazing. So far she hasn’t been wrong!
Plastic Jesus by Wayne Simmons. Release date: December 1 2013 (Salt Publishing). I recently reviewed another book from Salt Publishing, Scarecrow, and loved it, so when Tabitha asked if I’d like to read another of their titles, I jumped at the chance. This looks like twisted science fiction, which is my favorite kind!

Carousel Sun by Sharon Lee. Release date: February 4 2014 (Baen). This is the second book in the series, so I’m hoping to catch up with book one (Carousel Tides) before February. It’s a fantasy set in Maine about a girl who is the caretaker for an old carousel. It sounds creepy and magical. Thank you Baen!

Blogging slumps (and reading slumps) are the worst. Sometimes I just need a week away from the blog or to get refreshed. Re-read a favorite book, switch up your reading genre, read what you want, not a review book, or just binge on a favorite tv show instead 🙂
