2013 Catch Up Reading Challenge

Catch Up Reading Challenge Button250 copy

It’s almost the end of the year, and for book bloggers that means taking stock of your reading accomplishments and thinking about goals for the coming year. It also means feeling remorseful about all the wonderful books that you just didn’t get to. Since I started blogging, I’ve had to pass up reading dozens of books that I would have read, if I didn’t have a set reading schedule. To people reading this that aren’t bloggers, you’re probably saying to yourself, “Why can’t you just read and review the books you want to?” Well, that’s the way it started for me, but as all book bloggers out there know, blogs seem to have minds of their own, and before you know, you’re taking on more than you can handle.

So I’m starting my own reading challenge. I’m doing it for me, but I’m also inviting other bloggers to join me. My goal is simple: “Catch Up” on some books I’ve been dying to read, but because of my blog commitments, I just haven’t had time. Now, my personal list does not just include books from 2012. I’m mostly interested in catching up with complete series of books that I’ve recently discovered, and I’m giving myself the entire year of 2013 to do it! Sounds easy, right?

I’ve made a button so it’s official, and if you’d like to join you can enter your website in the Linky below. You can also put the button on your blog if you’d like! Here are the rules for the Challenge:

1. Select the books you’d like to “catch up” on during the year. I’ve decided not to put a minimum or even a limit on this number. It’s really up to you. My list has (8) books on it.

2. Grab the challenge button and post it on your sidebar.

3. Do a Catch Up Challenge blog post listing the books you’d love to finally get to read in 2013. Include the button in your post and link back here, if you don’t mind:)

4. Every time you read one of your catch up books, write a review and let me know about it in the comment section of this post. I’d love to see what you’re reading! You can easily find this post again by clicking the Catch Up Challenge button on my sidebar. It will take you right back here.

5. PRIZES!!  For every ten bloggers or reviewers that sign up, I will have a giveaway. And for each of your challenge book reviews, you’ll get an entry into the giveaway. Giveaways will be spread out during the year to give you time to read and review your books.

6. You don’t have to have a blog to participate! You can post reviews on Goodreads too, just let me know in the comments where to find your review.

So, here are the books I plan to read:

vampire empireThe Rift WalkerThe KingmakersHoundedHexedHammeredshadow of nightThe Twelve2

1. 2. & 3. Vampire Empire Books 1-3: The Greyfriar, The Rift Walker & The Kingmakers by Clay Griffith and Susan Griffith. I own all three books, but I’ve never been able to find the time to read them. That’s going to change!

4. 5. & 6. The Iron Druid Chronicles #1-3: Hounded, Hexed, and Hammered by Kevin Hearne. I just recently discovered Kevin’s books, and he’s just released book #5!! I’m so behind. I thought I’d be conservative and only put three on my list. I hear they are funny and have dogs in them, two things that I find irresistible. I believe there will be six books when the series is complete.

7. Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness. The second book after A Discovery of Witches. I loved the first book and I’m hoping the second is just as good. I just hate starting a series that I love and not being able to keep up with it.

8. The Twelve by Justin Cronin. Same goes for this book. I loved The Passage, and I hear this one is even better. Both books #7 and #8 are pretty long, but if they live up to the hype, length shouldn’t be an issue.

Here’s the button you can grab:

Books, Bones & Buffy

  1. What a cute challenge button you made! Your books all look good & it’s so nice to catch up on those books you’ve been meaning to read. I received books 2 & 3 of the Iron Druid Chronicles at WonderCon so I’ll need to buy the first book soon to start reading.
I’m on the fence about reading challenges for next year but I’ll definitely consider joining yours 🙂

  2. I feel your pain. My personal TBR pile suffers as well. Like you, the reason why I started blogging was to tackle all the books that I wanted to read but that isn’t what happened! Oh, well. It’s challenges like yours that will help me to tackle these books!!

Thanks for hosting! I love your challenge badge!

  3. I’m really excited about this challenge, Tammy! I had sort of already resolved to make 2013 my catch-up year anyway, so this really works out! My next Top Ten Tuesday post actually outlines the ten books I plan to catch-up on so I’ll post the link tomorrow. I’ve also added your rad button on my homepage and am urging others to join in on the fun! Happy New Year!

  4. I’m really sorry for this Ms. Tammy, I have changed the URL of my blog, and I can’t no longer delete nor edit my first entry, but I already added my new entry to the Linky. Really sorry for the inconvenience.
