Stacking the Shelves (11)

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. It’s been a couple of weeks since my last Stacking the Shelves, and I fear I went a little crazy with my book purchases…it’s a terrible time of year for books (and I mean that sarcastically!), there are just so many new releases that it’s difficult (for me, anyway) to control myself! Here’s what’s on my shelf this week (click on the book covers to go to Goodreads):

For Review from NetGalley & Edelweiss:

Chantress by Amy Butler Greenfield. Release date: May 7 2013 (Margaret K. McElderry Books). I have to admit I requested this from Edelweiss for sentimental reasons. My mother’s name is Amy Butler! I figured it was a sign, and I’m so happy I was approved. This story about a girl who has the power to make things happen when she sings sounds amazing.

Speaking From Among the Bones by Alan Bradley. Release date: January 29 2013 (Delacorte Press). This is the fifth adventure of eleven-year-old sleuth Flavia de Luce, and I adore these books. Not only are they printed without dust jackets (something I wish more publishers would do, but I think it’s probably more expensive to print the images directly onto the boards), but Bradley’s writing is fantastic. Even though the protagonist is only eleven, these are not YA books.

Lichgates by S. M. Boyce. I stumbled upon this book on NetGalley and decided to download it. It’s the beginning of a YA fantasy trilogy and has lots of five-star reviews on Goodreads.

 Won:

Demon Soul and Demon Hunt by Christine Ashworth. I participated in the Violet Midnight Facebook Launch Party a couple of weeks ago, and was lucky enough to win these books from Christine. The publisher is Crescent Moon Press, and I’ve read several really good books from this small publisher.

The Prince of Mist by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. I won this from Andreia Nunes at Tyrony. When I received the package I realized she lives in Portugal! Thanks Andreia!

Purchased:

What can I say? I’m dying to read all these books, and I’m hoping for a miracle (like time freezing) that will give me a chance to read them:) I’d love to know what’s on your shelves this week!

  1. I don’t dare read these too closely, because my TBR is already so MONSTROUS. I need to become a vampire just to ever take a bite out of it.

    Hee. I made an not-enough-coffee-yet pun. *G*

How’s your NaNo? I’m managing to get my words in so far, but man am I buried under stuff. I’m afraid what’s coming out is going to need BIG editing. But that’s the fun, right?

    • I know what you mean about that TBR pile! I love looking at it, but it also depresses me…NaNo is going pretty well. So far I’m keeping up with my daily goal, but I’m working without an outline which scares me. I was planning on getting the story laid out first, but I just didn’t have time:)

  2. We have Chantress in common this week – that is cool that the author shares a name with your mom. Can’t wait to read Touching the Surface (I’m on hold at the library) and 24 Hour Bookstore looks great too. Happy reading and writing!

  3. OMFG! I am so jealous you got Chauntress! *o* I hope you enjoy it!
And I have Velveteen, Touching the Surface & Carnival of Souls too and I can’t wait to read them all! x]

There’s a couple of books there which I’ve put on my Wish List for future purchase – Touching The Surface and Alice In Zombieland which I’ve heard lots about.

I noticed that you have The Dead of Winter as an upcoming review. I heard about this book last week on a couple of hauls and I’ve put this book on to my Wish List following seeing it on your blog. Thank you.

Please check out my latest haul at http://resolution-corner.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/showcase-sunday-is-meme-hosted-by-vicky.html

  6. I got Lichgates last week. Still did not read it, but as you said, everybody praise it. 🙂
I read ‘Alice in Zombieland’ recently and it was a fun, quick read (teen version of Night Huntress). Be warned: it’s has nothing to do with ‘Alice in Wonderland’. I don’t know why they advertise it as such. :/
As for other books, more than half of them are on my tbr, so it means I am going to read them someday, right? I accept time freezes, vampires bites or any other solution that will enable me to accomplish it. 😀

And if you think you got a little wild with stacking your shelf, you should check out my IMM. I think I was the worst hoarder this week. LOL

    Happy reading!
