Waiting on Wednesday #26 – JOYLAND by Stephen King

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine, and gives bloggers a chance to highlight the books they are anxiously awaiting. This week I’m waiting for:

Joyland by Stephen King. Release date: June 4 2013 (Hard Case Crime). I was so excited to see the cover reveal for this upcoming King book, and also thrilled to find out Hard Case will be publishing it exclusively in mass market paperback (no e-book, at least for now). Hard Case books harken back to the inexpensive paperback crime novels that were popular in the 1940s through the 1960s, and the cover art of their books mimics the style of pulp fiction at that time. This is the second book that King has published with Hard Case (the first was The Colorado Kid published in 2005). I love the old-fashioned-style artwork and the scantily clad female that is present on every Hard Case book. It just screams “pulp,” doesn’t it? Here’s the very short description from Goodreads:

Set in a small-town North Carolina amusement park in 1973, Joyland tells the story of the summer in which college student Devin Jones comes to work as a carny and confronts the legacy of a vicious murder, the fate of a dying child, and the ways both will change his life forever.
